What happens at the end of the movie Notebook?

In the movie The Notebook, does the couple die together at the end or are they just sleeping?

in the book, they don't die together, because there is actually another book that comes after that one called The Wedding. In that book, Noah is still alive but Ally actually passed away. So technically, it would be impossible for them to die, however, that's what the director was intending to get across. Long story short, in the movie they die. In the book, they don't.
