The Matrix: Reloaded will answer your questions about the timeline. Most specifically, the conversation between Neo and the Architect near the end of the movie. To answer what I can without spoiling anything, the Matrix is older than 100 years. Morpheus was not one of the first people to fight against the machines.

As we've seen in the Animatrix, it is possible to thrive outside of the Matrix in small communities, tribes if you want to call them that. I believe the 100 years Morpheus was referring to therefore the founding of the city of Zion. Not the struggle of man versus the machine as a whole, but the war between the largest gathering of freeborn/freed humans and the Matrix.

Well my complete understanding of matrix is that it never actually says the matrix has been around for a hundred years. It could have been around longer than that but in actual reality, no body really knows except the writers.

About Morpheous, I would think that he is able to live that long. He is a machine, and who know's how long they actually run for. I know that they can be killed in the matrix, but that would be just like puting a virus in a computer, it's going to crash it. So I believe that he was 100 years old at the time.

Morpheous said it is estimated to be.....meaning that he really had no clue about real time. Plus the actual dates in this movie are irrelivant as to what is going on.

And to answer a little of the 2nd paragraph. No he would not be 100+ years old. It probably was an underground resistance at first. Until, that is, Neo, came to the fight.

But it is a movie set.....I am sure that if you look into the details of the 3 movies you would probably get a better answer.

Well, with Matrix, anything goes. That is about the only way I can explain it.

Sorry I wasn't more help.

In the movie The Matrix, the matrix has been around since 2100 that is when the human race was priding themselves on their achievements with AI, but there was a war, the the sentinals build the matrix using humans as slaves, morpheous has been fighting them for 100 years.. remember the agents when they were interrogating Morpheus, it was they that programed the first matrix, but no one would accept the program. Morpheus found his way out of the program and has been fighting the machines ever since, but the time in the matrix is closer 2199 than in the programme.

Morpheus was not one of the first people battling the machines. He talks about the first man that set many of them free, who could do within the Matrix what he wanted. The "true" children of Zion, the ones without the plugs, were a generation after the first of them were freed.

The people in the matrix ultimately are computer programs, you live as long as your program is useful or you learn how to manipulate the system. People were battling the machines before morpheus it was a long battle.

Well morpheous was not the first to start the battle with zion but he becomes like a hero because he belives Neo can destroy you know the evil stuff. Its hard to understand i have seen it like 12 times I love all the Matrixs. You need to see the last to understand but it comes down to the matrix isnt in the infront of time its just...Well its not real its saying the machines capture the humens to use them as fuel to run the matrix which is a computer. So the matrix is not real its just like a huge computer game kind of.In the first move when he bends the walls hes not bending a wall hes bending the program...Its very far fetched but i like the movies its just saying the world as we know it isnt real its a computer program.Thats why Neo dosent die in the frist one its because none of its real.Back to the question no hes not in the future hes right were he should be becaus the matrix makes people think there like in 1999.Hope this helps.LOL took 15mins to type. And theres no spoilers here.

Eh... you don't really want to see Revolutions.

Anyway, I would imagine that the Matrix in its present incarnation (remember the Merovingian said there were many versions of "The One," so I think there were like 6 or 7 Matrices) has been around about 100 years. I don't remember anyone saying that Morpheus was one of the original freedom fighters. I think I may vaguely remember someone saying something like that about the Oracle. I don't know, it's been a while.

Being a huge Matrix fan myself I offer you this humble advice: Just enjoy the first film for the masterpiece that it is. The sequels suck and just mess with everything.

Good night. :)

he wasn't one of the first people fighting the machines...at the end of reloaded, the architect says that it's been much longer than all the humans think because the cycle has already happened 5 times, neo is the fifth "one"...if that makes sense.

I think you may be overanalyzing it a little. Its just a movie. You do have good choice in movies though. I think the matrix has been around for 100 years as far as they know. They're lab rats they have no sense of time.

wait for the revolutions and watch it. you dont want me to spoil the fun in watching do you? it explains everything there, except why Neo had to fight a million Agent Smiths when he could just fly away and save time. LoL, i dont get that one even now.
