I am a smoker and I think it is absolutely ridiculous that they would rate a movie "R" due to cigarette smoking. C'mon. I consider an "R" rating to be sexually graphic or gore, not smoking. I think they are going just a bit far with this. I go to a PG-13 movie that has alot of swearing, sex and some gruesome images but what it only gets the "R" if the killer has a cigarette?? what the F*&%?

I agree that it's really stupid. Mostly because it does hurt the film if it gets rated r. Because, then, certain people aren't allowed to see it, because they are excluded by the rating. Also, people will see that rating and either go expecting something racy (and be disappointed), or parents won't let the kids go see something of quality, just because one character took a puff. Example, would Oh God! be considered r because God smokes a cigar?

I think the Hollywood rating system is archaic. A film needs to post what's in the film, so people can decide for themselves, but restricting people from seeing a film for something as arbitrary as smoking is ridiculous.

Yeah, but I would not worry about it. It is something that is ridiculous, but meaningless. The rating system is really a joke anyway. I mean, who really pays attention to the ratings anyway. I know there are people that do, but not many. I certainly do not. I've seen movies that are pg that were not fit to watch, while I've seen R movies that really had nothing in it. Did you know that the 1968 movie starring the Monkees "Head" was rated R when it was first released? It was one of the first movies to have a rating.

Smokers are Dopers. The idea of a "R"rating is one of the best ideas. It is always a bad idea " in the smokers mind" to make a change. Smokers are hooked and everything concerning smoking is OK with them, because they are Hooked. It's Ok if there Neck smells, if they are going to be Kissed. It is OK if they stand in line at the Bank and smell up the area around them. It is Ok with a Doper, I mean a Smoker if they sit on your sofa and stink it up, for days. I don't even buy from smokers at the swap meet or market or store. Their addiction cost them much in areas they don't even know about. The less smoking on the screen the better. Many people think like i do, they just don't put it in words. ...Hey Gang ! Let's go out and pull some Smoke into our Lungs and make our body smell ... What are we all waiting for????

As a picture, i hit upon cigarette smoking sexy. Anti-smoking advocates could call me brainwashed, yet it extremely is in basic terms the way i think. i can't stand kissing human beings who smoke regardless of the undeniable fact that. My mothers and dads the two smoke and ever because of the fact I moved out of their living house I have no tolerance for the scent of it anymore. It provides me issues.

It really doesnt matter what rating a movie is honestly...it doesnt change the fact if your going to watch it or not? Its just a rating lets the "Stricter" parents know whats in it..doesnt hurt anyone really...

only smokers will complain about this, truthfully instead of doing an R rating , maybe they should do a disclaimer instead, something along the lines of showing people with lung cancer or emphysema dragging oxygen tanks with them everywhere, and the byline could say, while the smoking scenes in this movie looked cool this is what could happen to you if you smoke. Diana, do you have kids? You mentioned that you smoke, how will you feel when your kids start smoking??? tsk, tsk.

I don't smoke, but I think that is harsh to give a rating of R just for smoking. Maybe if they were smoking weed, but a cigarette?

It's very retarded, kinda like Wal-Mart's stance on not selling music cds with bad words. Eventhough, they sell dvds with swearing and nude scenes.
