Questions about Harry Potter!♥?

Now all the films have been released and watched, i have some questions that confuse me a little but might be the simplest to you HP fans :) (questions refer back to the Chamber of Secrets)

The creature that was petrifying people around the school, how was it getting around so secretly, (like Hermione was in the library, surely quite a few people were around at the time)?

When this creature petrified people, they looked more pale and cold, is it because they body is like shut down for only a short amount of time??

How did the creature kill Moaning Myrtle??? (the ghost in the girls bathroom)

Why chose Ginny (Ron's sister) to do all the blood writing and book stealing???
Just these little things in the film that bother me and I'm just eager to find out. x

Oh and how did Tom Riddle get the name...Voldemort...?? (It's alot i know, i just get so curious about loads of things)

1. It got around in the pipes. And it says that she was near the library, so she could have been in a deserted hallway

2. Yeah, I think so. Their body just shuts down. They're also cold.

3. It looked her in the eye. So, yeah. Direct eye contact is death, indirect eye contact (like a reflection) means you get petrified

4. This is a long story. Anyway, while they were at Flourish and Blotts (bookstore) Lucius Malfoy (if you don't remember, he's the guy with the long blonde hair) slipped an extra book into Ginny Weasley's cauldron. She found it, and began using it as a diary. As it could talk back to her, she became more and more dependent on it. Tom Riddle then influenced Ginny to write the message. When she realized what she did, she threw the diary in the toilet. Then Harry got it. Ginny was afraid that the diary would tell Harry exactly what she did, so she stole it back.

5. TOM MARVOLO RIDDLE= I AM LORD VOLDEMORT.

It's an anagram.

Anyway, hope it helped!

I haven't seen all the films but from some of them and the books:

The creature was using the pipes to get around the school Hermione wasn't actually in the library when she got petrified, she was on her way back and using a mirror to look around corners.

They're kind of frozen or petrified so I guess they could look pale and cold

The creature was a basilisk, which causes death with a single glance. In the book Myrtle says she opened the stall door and the last thing she saw was a pair of red eyes. The others were only stunned because they saw the basilisk indirectly, through a camera (Colin), in a mirror or reflected in water.

I think Ginny was chosen because it was known that Harry and Ron were friends and Harry was guaranteed to try to help rescue her.

He took that name because the sentance I am Lord Voldemort is an anagram of his birth name, Tom Marvolo Riddle

Seriously, if you would read the books, you'd learn all this.

But be that as it may, the creature in question is a basilisk, which in HP world is a giant snake which can kill people who look it directly in the eye and Petrify those who look indirectly (through a camera, mirror, reflection in the water, etc.). Petrified people exist in a state that is like being in a coma, but with additional side effects of appearing like a statue.

Hermione was in the library (in the books with Percy's girlfriend Penelope, who was also Petrified) while the rest of the school was in the Quidditch pitch, so she was quite alone. She had just had a hunch that a basilisk would use the plumbing to get around invisibly, and she went to the library to verify her facts. She knew it was a basilisk, so she used the mirror to look around corners, which spared her death, but got her Petrified. Moaning Myrtle was killed when she looked a basilisk in the eye.

As for Ginny, she was possessed by a piece of Voldemort's soul in the diary, which was a Horcrux. She was the one opening the Chamber and controlling the basilisk, or (as it turned out) Voldemort did it through controlling her mind and body.

And the name Voldemort - Tom Riddle got that by switching letters of his real name (Tom Marvolo Riddle), because he resented sharing a name with his Muggle father who had abandoned him.

The Basilisk was getting around the school using the plumbing system.

The people who were attacked by the Basilisk were petrified. They were white because they were 'frozen'. No blood circulation, etc.

It did not kill Moaning Myrtle. She's already dead. It petrified her because she 'looked' at it full on.

Ginny wasn't chosen. She just happened to find the book in the bathroom. Wrong place, wrong time.

Voldemort is a mix up of Tom Marvolo Riddle's name. He chose it himself to sound sinister.

1) Remember when Hermione was petrified? Well Harry and Ron found a slip of paper in her fist when she was at the hospital wing; it said: Pipes. The Basilik always travelled in the large pipes that goes around the school.

2) Yes I'm pretty sure that's the reason.

3) Myrtle was hiding in a bathroom crying because she was teased by Olive Hornby. She heard the bathroom door open and turned around and was about to tell her (she thought it was Olive coming back to tease her again) to go away. But then she found herself face to face with the Basilik. No creature can survive if they looked directly in the eye of the Basilik, and so Myrtle died.

4) First, it was because Lucius Malfoy (who had the diary of Tom) had to give it to someone from Hogwarts in order for them to be possessed by Voldemort. He met the Weasleys and Harry in Florish and Blotts, and conveniently decided to drop the diary in Ginny's bag. Lucius choose Ginny because a) She will most likely write in the diary b) She was very young, and will therefore be easy to manipulate c) She is Ron's sister and Ron is Harry's best friend. So when she goes into the chamber, they will likely go in to rescue her, giving Voldemort the chance to kill Harry using the Basilik.

5) Tom Marvolo Riddle (Voldemort's full name) is actually with the same letters as "I am Lord Voldemort." And Tom wanted a name that everyone will fear to say in his future. What better way to do that then use the name 'Voldemort' (French for 'flight of death')? Also, Voldemort got his first and last name from his muggle father, whom he despised. So of course he didn't want to keep his name.

It was going through the pipes

It kills you when you look directly into its eyes

Lucius Malloy slipped the diary to her in flourish and blotts and when she wrote in it she became possessed

Tom marvolo riddle = I am lord voldemort

1. the basilisk was traveling through the pipes. i guess hermione was alone and in the restricted section when she was attacked.

2. idk about this one

3. she actually looked it directly in the eye

4. lucius malfoy gave her the diary. she was also innocent and naive so she would easily get sucked into whatever the diary told her to do

5. he basically jumbled up the letters in his name tom marvolo riddle to get "i am lord voldemort"
