Movie tickets are 12-14.00 for matinees and 18-25.00 for 2D and up to 30.00 for 3D for weekends, plus you have to pay for parking at most theaters. In most other areas tickets are 10.00 2D and 13.00 3D for peak hours and 7.50 for matinees. Why are they so expensive in LA and so much cheaper elsewhere, doesn't seem right.

hi there,

It all started around 2002. Movie tickets at that moment were around $8.00 (and even far lower on weekdays and matinees). But they opened a new theatre in early 2002 - The Arclight on Sunset Blvd, near the corner of Vine Street. A brand new theatre - state of the art as they say, and with a novelty : you could reserve your seat. One thing wasn't that great : the ticket price. Ticket were sold starting from $11.00 (with some exceptions at $10.00)

(Now in 2013 they are way up at around $17.00 on weekends.)

At the beginning I thought it wouldn't be a success - it was only one multiplex theatre - but people kept coming and paying those high prices. With this "success", the other theaters and chains upted their prices too. And now, every few months movie ticket prices go up and up all over LA. (there are some places where tickets are still very reasonable, among them Universal's AMC)

And those ticket prices mentioned in the question above at $30.00, it isn't a miss printing.

One example : about 2 years ago, I think, there was Disney's "Cars 2". Well, tickets for this family-oriented animated movie were at $30.00 on weekends at the El Capitan, on Hollywood Blvd. !! And for the first weeks of circulation the film was in exclusivity at the El Capitan and couldn't be seen elsewhere in LA -- so those wanting to see that movie on the first weekend of opening, or as soon as possible, were in for a nice surprice at the box office at that moment.

And you could think that with the financial crisis we're in since 2008, they would somewhat "freeze" their prices, can forget it -- American Greed is well alive !!

If you wish to visit the popular Hollywood then you definitely need to create a trip to Los Angeles and this hotelbye is the place to start. In Hollywood you might find landmarks such as the Walk of Fame (stars on the sidewalk), the Hollywood Sign, the Hollywood Bowl and more. Los Angeles can be a area for everyone since this place is your home to a number of world-famous theme parks like Universal Studios, Disneyland and significantly more. In Los Angeles you may also got to savor the hot environment and beaches therefore regardless of one's passions, Los Angeles makes the perfect getaway.

Go earlier than 10am-12pm on a weekday and most theaters have $4 or $5 tickets. I've a movie theater in my field (a lot of them certainly) and so they promote tickets less expensive considering the fact that less humans see movies earlier than 4pm and i will be able to see 3d films before 12 noon for $6 and non 3d for $four.25; and after noon to 4pm, 3G films are $8 and non 3d films are $5.

The top comment is a lie, In 2002 movie tickets were around 5$ were I live. They really started to get expensive around 2006/2007. Now in 2014 one movie ticket is like 10$ in my city, it is freaking RIDICULOUS. I don't go movies anymore, and also today's movies are total CRAP and it's NOT worth paying 10$ to see them.

Los angeles is a very rich place. Most people that live there are pritty wealthy money wise. Houses, movies, ect most things are more expensive because so many wealthy live there and can afford it. That's my guess atleast.
