Well, if it's between Legolas and Aragorn, definitely Legolas.

But to pick an overall favorite character from LOTR, for me is nearly impossible. The book is all about people with differences joining forces against evil. At one point my devotion is to Frodo & Sam, then I flip to the Elves, then the Rohirrim (the people of the horses). They are the 9 companions and to pick one of them is too hard. I loved the Ents (Treebeard), Tom Bombadil & Goldberry (they didn't make the movies), Gandalf, Bilbo, all 9 Companions, Faramir & Eowyn, the eagles, the Elves, the Dwarves. Some characters have heart, some strength, some humor, some magic, some just like you and me and some have combos of many traits; So, picking a favorite character, is like picking a favorite dessert, there are just too many to pick from, and each for their own different reasons.

This question is so old but I'm still going to answer it! :D

My absolute favourite character is Legolas. I think Orlando Bloom did an amazing job of portraying Legolas. He actually resembled how I imagined him, save the blonde hair. I imaged him with red hair XD

I also really loved Merry and Pippin. Second favourite characters.

So many to choose from.

I always liked Merry and Pippin because it seems to me they show the most growth in the story. They go from near useless, always-scared, comic tag-a-longs to soldiers, actual soldiers!

The Merry and Pippin who return to the Shire are much changed from the Merry and Pippin who left.

I thought the director, writers and actors did an excellent job with the characters for those films!

Although I did find Sean Astin's Sam somewhat whiny and annoying at times.

I was especially impressed with the performances of Elijah Wood, Orlando Bloom and Sean Bean. I thought they were perfect for those roles and they did a wonderful job with them.

I thought it was interesting that the makers of THESE films made the same decision as the makers of the earlier animated movies - eliminating the part with Tom Bombadil.

Sophie,

My favorite charactor is definitely Legolas. Orlando Bloom did a great job. I also liked King Theodin and I felt his pain when his son died. I hope they don't drag their feet too much with the Hobbit movie. Hope this helps. Great question.

Top of the list is Gandalf. No contest. next come Eowyn and Golberry (they tie I like them both equally for different reasons). Next is Faramir (from the book, not the bleeding movies...I hated what was done to Faramir in the movies)

The mouth of sauron. Just imagine the mouth of sauron could have led a whole other dark age just like sauron did from his master melkor. Its a shame he got killed by aragorn because he could have created a whole new story.

All of my choices are based on the book representations, as I was not impressed with how many of my favorites were portrayed in the movies...especially faramir.

Gandalf

Eowyn and Goldberry

Merry and Pippin

Faramir

Frodo.
