Question:
Was anyone else a little bit disappointed with Disney's Frozen?

Look, I'm not here to bash on the film but I've known about this movie for over a year and a half and I was really looking forward to it and my expectations were really high, however, when I finally watched it, I was a little bit disappointed, actually a little more than that, because everyone, or at least I was hoping to be something like Wreck-It-Ralph or Tangled. I felt the story was very weak, too simple. I thought it would have been this icy packed frozen adventure.

***SPOILERS***

One thing that bothered me was the "Three years later" part at the beginning, right after Anna and Elsa's parents died in the storm. I was like "Who was ruling the kingdom in those three years?!" It seemed to me that Elsa was crowned queen right after her parents passed and the three years later was added by mistake and when they got to see that at the premiere, the producers must have been like in my mind: "Oops, who put that in there?"

Also, at the end when Elsa accidentally freezes Anna's heart, I felt that was too rushed.

I was also very upset of how the characters weren't that well developed, especially Elsa! We didn't get the chance to know anything about her. I wish they could have told where her powers came from, how she got them, just like how Rapunzel got her magical golden hair. The only positive things I can say about Elsa are her ice powers, her ice palace and her dress, I was like "Wow girl, you should be a fashion designer!"

Now talking about Anna, who was the highlight of the movie which I didn't mind that much, but as I said earlier I wish Elsa were in the spotlight as well. I liked Anna, but I wish her character was more explored.

Kristoff, he didn't have much of a personality I felt. He liked working with ice and that he lived with a bunch of trolls, who should have had a bigger role. That's it.

Olaf, was the best in this movie, he was hilarious and I agree that he did have the best lines as everybody kept saying, although it sucked that he appeared half way through the movie.

As for Hans, okay it was utterly predictable for teens and adults that he would turn out to be the antagonist, but since it wasn't for the kids I assume, well I'd give a pass. But again, he could have been more involved in the film, which wasn't the case unfortunately and he didn't have much character either. Now I'm not saying he should have been someone like Maleficent or Cruella de Vil but more like Gaston, that type of villain. I felt he didn't know what he was doing and didn't have much of a goal.

In terms with the soundtrack, they were decent but not great. For me, in order for a movie soundtrack to be really good (Disney-wise), it has to be stuck in your head and makes you wanna sing-a-long. The only song that was stuck in my head was Demi Lovato's version of Let it Go. Personally, I think Alan Menken would have done a better job with the soundtrack, who did the soundtracks for The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Enchanted and Tangled.

Overall, I'd give the film 3/5 stars it's better than Brave but not as great as Tangled or Wreck-it-Ralph. How did you guys feel? A lot of people loved it. It was the first time I was disappointed with a Disney fairy tale movie. Oh well, hope I won't be the next time.

I know what you mean. I went and saw the film the day it came out. The music, though some of it did stick in my head, was not music I could actually enjoy. They were more like showtunes in that sense, the real importance was in the words of the song instead of the actual music. And they also hired new people to write the music.

The story was rushed. I think the biggest reason it was so rushed was because of the actual story, The Snow Queen. It originally takes place over the course of about 10 years, which I wish they would have shown. And there is so much happening in the original story, I think they tried to fit in as much as possible and along the way ruined the story.

I was also very curious about why she had powers in the first place.

I didn't suspect Hans so much, but he could have been better developed. Olaf was absolutely brilliant. I just want a film for him. Elsa wasn't developed well enough, they should have really focused more on her. Anna was great but they tried too hard to make her relatable. Kristoff was my favorite, but they should have focused more on the romance between Anna and Kristoff. And the trolls should have been in the film more.

Overall, I agree for the most part. Disney needs new writers. I volunteer.

I'm so with you on this. To be brutally honest, I think it was just bad. It just irks me that such a great idea, with so much potential to be great, missed its mark by a long shot. Don't get me wrong, not all of it was bad. I liked the "Build a snowman" montage and I liked "Let it go." However, the story was rushed. It's just such a shame. The picture was nice, the attention to ice detailing was absolutely amazing, but all of the good is overshadowed by how rushed everything was. I felt like they had things and characters in there that were unecessary, like the toupee man and the trolls. I understand that the movie is for children and I don't expect them to sit in a chair for longer than 1 hour and 25 minutes but damn it was bad. I was affraid to blink because I thought it'd be over if I did. When I left the theater I just wanted to rip my hair out at how bad it was.

Like you all said, Elsa's character was really underplayed. They could've done a better job with her development. As for her powers, it was just said that she was born with them. Eh.

The only character fully realised was probably Olaf. Everyone else was just eh. I think the movie could've focused more on the bond between Anna and Elsa, the idea of sisterhood. The romance with Hans would've been a great way to poke fun at some of the other Disney Princess movies because, let's face it, a lot of them fall in love or get married to a guy that they only either just met or briefly saw for less than a day. I think that would've been hilarious.

All in all it was a great dissapointment for me. I've waited for this for about 4 years. And just to make it clear, it's GREAT for little kids but not for animation students like me. I can appreciate the attention to detail, esspecially in the ice, but the story was not acceptable done the way it was. So much potential..missed.

I just saw it today in the theater and it was interesting actually. However to me the plot was kinda confusing. At first when I saw the trailer I thought Anna and Elsa were kinda the same person and then I thought "no that can't be, I should just see the movie." Then today I arrived at that movie 30 minutes late so I missed the beginning but I think I know what happened. Anyway it was really unpredictable for Hanss to turn into this crazy evil guy out to destroy Elsa? That made no sense to me. However when I first saw the trailer and heard about this movie, I knew it would be really similar to Tangled, and it was. I knew those two kids would fall in love on this crazy expedition just like Tangled. A part of me didn't wanna watch it, cause I kinda knew what was going to happen just like Tangled, yet another part of me was like "GO WATCH IT!!!" Ya know just out of curiosity. But I would overall give the whole movie a 4.5/5. I mean it was a really interesting plot and a person can't just understand it by reading it, you actually have to see it to get it and I'm glad I did.

I get your think about the 3 years later... But I thought it was adorable and I loved the music. I do wish we knew more about Elsa's powers and that Anna should be more important, because the only thing that gives her power is Elsa loves her and she's her sister Anna is pretty much useless...

Okay did anyone else think that when Elsa was building her new outifit, it was a little skippy. And the way she was walking on the balcony shaking her tush and the strip in her dress just made her look like she was u know like trying to impress someone

Frozen wasn't even that good. I don't know what people are freaking out about.... is it because they changed the moral?? Yep, I thought so..... WOW.... so people didn't even like the movie they just liked Elsa and the sister love. Mmm- hmm....

I feel like demi should of been elsa just because when demi sings the emotion seeps through and it's beautiful the girl that actually played elsa seems to mistake emotion with power... i just wasnt feeling it
