Sort of. Wes Craven (director) got the idea for A Nightmare on Elm Street when reading the newspaper about a young teenage boy who was having nightmares and eventually died in his sleep.

The moment you start believing anything you see on the internet, stop.

Of course not, how can he haunt your dreams? The worst that can happen in a dream is that you're flirting with your crush and you mom shows up.

So be brave :)

No........Nightmare on Elm Street is NOT based on a true story. It is physically impossible for anything that you dream to physically affect your body unless you sleep walk, but there is nothing to worry about. Please try to ignore the people who say it's true because it just isn't. I hope you are able to fall asleep tonite!

Yes-sort of it is based on a different event. Over 30 families of service men (lived on base/site housing) were found dead in the 50's on a military project where they were mining uranium and are rumored to uncovered a man made tunnel going deep down (no one knows how deep).

Anyways after they opened it everyone on the base nearby who was sleeping was found dead -mutilated but with no signs of entry and a few who were woken reported very odd things which I wont go into because its THAT freaky.

Anyhow they did n awful lot of "weapons testing" on that direct site were it happened (ie they NUKED THE PLACE OVER AND OVER TRYING TO KILL WHAT THEY OPENED) and to this day that site remains a radioactive desert wasteland protected by landmines and drone patrols to prevent any entry ---or exit

scary world huh

OF COURSE IT"S BASED ON A TRUE STORY! You never heard of arbor day?! it's a celebration in which you plant trees, mainly elms. in honor of "elm street", by doing such you are giving blessing to freddy to stay out of your dreams. however if you dont plant trees on arbor day then he will haunt your dreams and frighten you to death in your sleep.

No it's not based on a true story. Don't worry it's purely fictional
