Here's the thing I don't like about the remake.
Remember the original where Sissy Spacek played Carrie? No disrespect to her, but she wasn't the prettiest actress ever. She wasn't a looker by any stretch of the imagination. That being said, that fact made her the PERFECT choice to play Carrie.
Chloe Grace Moretz, on the other hand, is a decent looking girl. Some of the shots I saw in the previews, she looks glamorous as glamorous could be. Are we REALLY supposed to believe that NOBODY asked her out to prom? Even if she's been an outcast her whole life, not one horny guy looking to get lucky at least approached her? Pardon my french, but ****, if she's the worst looking girl at that school, that's the BEST high school ever.
All of these re-makes are not so much about the lack of originality. It's the technological age that we live in. We're used to seeing everything in ultra HD, 1080p and beyond, right? Many of the movies being remade from the 60's, 70's and 80's aren't as "pretty" to look at it, so Hollywood feels like they have to remake these films to fit more into our generation, which is completely ridiculous if you ask me. Part of what makes these classic films successful is that they were pioneers FOR THEIR TIME. Plus, you know, all of these 12 year old kids who don't even know the world existed 20 years ago have no respect for the classics and probably don't even know these remakes ARE remakes, so parents will happily drop money for their underage kids to see them.
