It's happy in the sense that the aliens get to escape. Everyone doesn't suffer equally. MNU treated the aliens like crap. They experimented on them, killed them, and they were in the process of sending them to "concentration camps". Wikus didn't care about the alien's plight until he needed help. Then he deserts Christopher Johnson, the alien who risks his life for Wikus. Whatever happened to Wikus pales in comparison to the treatment of the aliens by MNU.

hard to call it an ending when its a set up for the next movie.
the movie itself is supposed to mirror real life problems we are having. like immigration and poverty and such
