Big Hawaiian Singer Getting Bigger In Death

Honolulu, HI (WFN) -- Singer Israel Kamakawiwo'ole -- a.k.a. "Bruddah Iz" -- died in 1997 but, like Jim Morrison and Tupac Shakur, he's become more popular after death than he was in his lifetime.

The reason? His ukulele-backed medley of "Over The Rainbow/ What A Wonderful World," which has been featured on "E.R." and movies like "Finding Forrester" and "50 First Dates."

Bruddah Iz weighed 650 pounds at the time of his death but his CD sales are even larger than his frame.

Susie Meckler of Mountain Apple Records says there's been a consistent groundswell of sales in the last two years and says his CD, "Facing The Future," just turned platinum and his last recording, "Alone In Iz World," is about to go gold.

There are also two concert DVDs available, a documentary and a docudrama about the singer's life.

Although new material by Iz is in short supply, Meckler figures his popularity will continue to soar and calls the singer, "Our little Hawaiian Energizer bunny, 'cause he just keeps going and going."

Israel Kamakawiwo'ole.... for extra information, this music and version of someplace over the rainbow replaced into also performed at Meet Joe Black for the acceptable credit and at searching Forrester in route of the ending section at the same time as Sean Connery already died.
