Question about movie producing?

Hi my name is Juliantha.
I was wondering if any of you work through movie producing, directing, etc. If so, can you please give me a brief overview on how the process of turning a book into a movie works? I am looking into publishing a book with a good friend of mine, and we were curious as to whether or not our story is movie material, and what that process looks like. We would love to see our story brought to life on the big screen. Does the book HAVE to become a bestseller? Is a certain amount of popularity necessary? Please detail your answer...I will be selecting a best answer. Thank you so much.

It doesn't have to be a bestseller, but it helps a lot if it is.

You can make a script too, send it in and see where that gets you.

Also, make a website talking about your book. Have giveaways for the first couples months the book is out and get it advertised.
