I don't get it when in the end, you see Will Smith and his arm is burnt and you see like metal inside, was he supposed to be a robot the whole time? If so how and why? Its SO confusing

He was in that car wreck that almost killed him, and the robot saved him, instead of the 12 year old girl next to him in the other car. This is why he distrusts robots. He survived the accident, but they had to replace part of him with a robotic part to allow him to survive.

The doctor killed in the begining of the movie is who did the surgery to Will Smith.

Nope,

His arm was replaced by a cybernetic arm after a robot saved him from drowning while trapped in his car. His car was under water, along with another car, after an accident involving that car with a little girl inside.

Spooner could see the girl in the other car and demanded the robot save her instead. The robot jerked Spooner out of his car, and as they swim to the surface, Spooner watches as the girl and her car disappear into the gloom.

The robot who saved Spooner explained that he had a higher percentage of living through this rescue than the little girl and that's why the robot saved Spooner instead of the girl.

This is the whole basis of Spooner's hatred of the robots:

They are too cold and calculating. The robot did not consider that a human, though not as calculating, would have tried to save the child and not the full grown man. (Who wouldn't?)

No matter the odds.

Okay...so there was a flashback in like the middle of the movie when he tried to save a little girl from a sinking vehicle. He is trying to get to her and a robot comes along and accesses the situation. He sees that the girl will not live and he saves Will Smith. It is explained that he had to get a fake arm put on because of the accident. He hates that he is part robot but he is human.

That is where a lot of his hostitlity comes from is the fact that this robot didnt have the compassion save the little girl because it was programmed to save the person that was the most savable.

Hope this helps.

It's part of the backstory about his aversion to the robots. He was rescued from his sinking car. He wanted the robot to rescue a little girl in another car, but the robot calculated the odds and determined that the girl wouldn't live even if it got her out.

Somehow in the process of this rescue his arm was crushed or ripped off or something and he had a robotic arm. But no, he was not a robot all along.

Watch the movie again. All that is in there and it'll make sense this time.

No, his arm was pulled off in the accident by a rescue robot. It was replaced with a robotic arm. Early in the movie he had to spray some fake skin over an exposed part.

ha ha! what did you not get?

its clear, the flashbacks meant that he was in a Car accident and he tried to save a little girl, but the robot chose to save him instead b/c of he had a better chance of surviving than the little girl (even though he signal to the robot to save the girl)

like, why do you think that he hated Robots through out the movie?
hope...

i think it was because of the accident he got into. remember when he was tellin the girl that he was in an accident where the car went under water and when the lil 11 year old girl only had an 11% chance of living and he had a 45% chance...yeah...i think that he tore his arm and had to have it amputated or something. that makes more sense than him being a robot the whole time.=)

he was in a car crash w/ another person inside. he lost his arm in the process and was replaced w/ a metal implant . . . . a robot came and saved him and only him because he had the highest probability of survival. this is how him hating the robots started . . . .

Yea he loses it in that car crash when he was trying to save the lil girl... his car went in the water and the robot saved him instead of the lil girl and he was tellin the robot no save her but the robot did not listen and ended up saving Will instead of the lil girl.. thats why he hates robots very good movie lookin forward to "Iam Legend"

only his one arm is robotic. He lost it in the underwater car accident. Remember? With the little girl who died cuz the robot was too busy saving smith cuz he had a higher life expectancy%.

He got hurt a long time ago, and he lost his arm and got a metal one. You find this out after the robots destroy his car in the tunnel.

no, his arm got mutilated before and so he got it fixed. being the future, they had better technology or something. also, he was a cop so it had to be sort of unbreakable

His are is an implant from a car accident.

It is an implant. They talk about it, especially when referencing the flashbacks he keeps having.
