I subscribed to netflix last month, to try it out. So during the end of it. I cancelled. because i hardly used it.

So I sent my remaining movies back after finishing(during the 7 days they give you after cancelling)

However there were 3 movies, and i only had one of the sleeves. I put all the movies into the one sleeve and sent them on their way.

I got an email for the ones sleeve and never for the other two.

Never got anything about the other 2. So now a couple weeks later. I get a letter from my bank that says i have been charged $40 for the two missing movies.

Problem is, i dont have that money in there. Now my account is negative.(visa check card)

Can anyone help me figure out what to do? If netflix puts the money back will i be ok? will i have to do anything with my bank? I have never had this happen before. I am 18, and i am afraid of what will happen. Please help. Thanks

Contact Netflix and tell them you returned the 3 movies in one sleeve, but were only credited for one. They may refund your money. Then call your bank explain the situation and ask them if they will refund the fee. Sometimes they will. It's worth a try.

First off, put money in your bank account to cover the charges. If you do not, then you will continue to get overdraft fees. Netflix can credit your account but it will take some time for the money to go back into your account.

What you will need to do is to call up Netflix customer service at 1-888-NETFLIX. They are open 24 hours a day. Make sure you log into your account first (You still can even if you have canceled) and click on the help link. Once on this page, click on the "Other" link. This will show a page with an auth code and call customer service up. They will ask for this number when you call to pull up your account.

Once you have someone on the line, explain your situation to them about how you lost the sleeves and returned the DVDs in one envelope. Let them know that you were deducted $20 + tax for each of the two movies that did not have sleeves and would like a credit for it since you returned them. Once you get the credit from them (Customer service is the best. Netflix has won best online customer satisfacation for the last three years), you will need to contact the bank to reverse the overdrafts. Explain the situation to your bank and if you need, make a three way call to Netflix customer service. Have the bank already on the phone since it is faster to get Netflix customer service then the bank most likely. The bank should be able to reverse the overdrafts.

For reference, if you lose a sleeve for a DVD from Netflix. Mark the sleeve as lost on the website. Returning the DVD without the sleeve doesn't do anyone any good. The sleeve has the barcode that the hubs checks movies in with. There is no identification on the DVDs themselves.

First and formost find money to cover these charges ASAP before it begins to snowball. Then write a well written letter explaining your situation to Netflix and be very clear without being too wordy on what you did. Request an audit of movies you have returned so they may have some kind of record where a sleeve had multiple DVD's in it.

However, I am a Blckbuster subscriber so this may be similiar to how they do it but on their site you can indicate that you sent in multiple movies with one sleeve. It's a shot at trying to resolve it, but this may be a $40 lesson learned to take ownership of making sure you contact them BEFORE you mail the DVD's to see if there is another way to mail since you misplaced one of the sleeves. Not coming down on you too hard, but sometimes it is those little 40-buck mistakes that help you in the future with bigger things. (Hope this helped a little). Get on that letter though and try to work through it.

The main thing is you don't want multiple checks bouncing causing bigger issues. Also dispute the charge iwth your bank.

when you returned the 3 movies in one sleeve did you report it on the netflix site?? there is a link "shipping problems" that you can click on and it lists a bunch of problems , one of them being "lost a sleeve"....

I am not sure the Netflix people go through every DVD envelope that comes back so you need to inform them if you have a problem...

I would contact them and let them now what happened..... I am pretty sure there is a number you can call...

that would never have happened if you had subscribed to blockbuster online. they have the same policy and i actually forgot to send the sleeve w/my movie and it was fine. netflix may be cheaper but they aren't very good when it comes to customer service. what you do is try to dispute the charge to your account as not being an authorized purchase and they may credit the money to your account. unfortunately depending on your banks policies it may take a while for this to be resolved,so you may end up having to pay the bank the money first and the dispute it b/c your bank may charge you fees for each day you leave your account in a negative balance. i suggest you get a brochure detaing their policies or going there to personally talk to some at the bank. i hope it all works out for you. i'm sorry this happened to you.
