Are movie premieres free?

Question

I really want to go to the Dark Shadows premiere in Hollywood, and I know that for going into the theater with the stars and watching the movie and stuff, you need to get tickets.
But all I want to do is stand outside the red carpet and maybe get autographs/pictures with Tim Burton, Johnny Depp, etc.
So, you know, is just standing outside near the celebs, but not acually watching the movie premiere itself free?

i don't know, but if it is free it's gonna be really hard for you to get pictures and autographs from them, there'll be loads of people there. good luck anyway :)
