It Seems like all horror movies now days are about someone getting possessed by a demon or something. I mean growing up I watched Nightmare on elm street and Friday the 13th and some other good classics. And sure there were a few about that but now days every horror movie is about the same ****? Like paranormal activity and ****... they are the most boring movies ever and get horrible reviews and yet people keep making them? They lack originality and are boring as ****!!

Paranormal Activity was ground-breaking, scary, and original as hell.

And only a small percentage of horrors are about possessions and demons. Holy crap you must be either really stupid, have seen only one or two horrors, or are trolling on purpose.

Yes, that small percentage is probably higher than it has been the last decade or so, but that's because the public has shown a greater interest in the subject matter recently. But it still doesn't make even half of the horrors that are made and being made.

I agree with you. Many horror films these days lack any originality, they repeat the same trash that's been done a hundred times over. The Paranormal Activity films were just awful! I only watched the first...that told me enough not to watch the rest...I was bored stupid.

I also hate the way that Hollywood keeps re-making horror films that are already good films - Evil Dead, The Thing, The Ring etc. There are however a few out there that are quite good....none of them are Hollywood which says a lot...you may want to check these out if you've not seen them already:

A Serbian Film - this one is for serious horror fans only...if you thought Saw (yawn!) was good or Hostel was gruesome then I suggest that you DON'T watch this film; it's seriously nasty! Personally thought it was excellent.

REC - Spanish film, quite interesting, perhaps not the most original but well done.

The Descent - Classic British horror, lots of tension.

Ichi The Killer - Great little film, loads of really over the top stuff. Loved it.

Old Boy - More a psychological head f**k film than a horror but good anyway.

Dog Soldiers - This one is more for laughs but I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Martyrs - French film, fairly gruesome in parts, well worth a watch.

Frontier(s) -2007 - French film, not as gruesome as Martyrs but still fairly original.

Enjoy :-)

I agree. And I especially hate most straight to video movies like on Syfy and Chiller. They are always about some dumb monster e.g. a rock monster, a mutant shark, a backwoods killer or something similar. The characters are always one dimensional and token. They get killed one by one and then the movie ends. There's no story, no mystery, no suspense or imagination. They focus on the (usually mediocre) special effects and death scenes. It's ridiculous. I think it's the current culture we're in based on technology and cashing in rather than trying to really create something based on writing, acting, direction etc. They focus on "flash" because people will go see it and they make money. It's a cycle. Special effects and horrific scenes should compliment a good horror movie. It shouldn't rely on them. A good horror movie would be good even without shock or jump scenes because they have a good foundation.

Take the Twilight Zone for example. That show was (and still is) scary just because it was well written, directed and acted. They didn't have to distract or dazzle people with visuals and horror. You cared about the characters and identified with them. And had an intelligence and commentary that movie now lack. That's my opinion.

Ok let's talk about the film franchises/series first.

Sometimes the first one is good, be it critical or mass reception. So they decide to make as much money out of it as possible, including creating sequels. Even if the sequels get from bad to worse, they continue making them anyway (even if they don;t get a theatrical release and are released straight to video) because there will be people who watch them anyway. These are either die hard fans or people who decide to just follow the entire series since they have already watched the prequels.

I call these franchises "cash cows". There is already a concept for the storyline, all you need to do is write different characters. There is also already a group of fans from the first film and one rule in every industry is that it is easier and cheaper to retain existing audiences/users than attract news ones. This is why movies always have remakes and sequels - to milk as much money out of them before they die out.

Next, simply because Hollywood had run out of ideas. Honestly, the industry has been around for decades, there probably isn't anything that hasn't been done yet. Not everybody has Christopher Nolan's brains that can create something exceptional and original.

Well, I could say it's because the same people are stupid enough to watch them, OR, It's because nobody has enogh intelligence & imagination to write a decent story, OR Beause all of the old classic actors are either dead or really old. ......... But it's none of that, These days, It's all about what makes the most Money, & once you get a recipe for making millions, you don't change it. .... Perhaps today's "Horror" Movies should instead be called "Horrible Movies"!!??

for some reason kids these days like **** like that. These filmmakers are uninspired and unoriginal. They know teens like the paranormal **** so they just make a bunch of very similar movies just to rake in the big bucks. They don't care for originality anymore. All they care about is making a fairly simplistic film and getting paid. its bullshit.

i guess sex sells i guess it originated from Psycho and you forgot to mention that when she is standing in front of the mirror the suspenseful music plays when she opens it then nothing appears when she closes it then like 1 minute later she sees something somewhere else.
