My wife absoultely loves Disney movies. There is one in particular that she has been looking for, Song Of The South on DVD. I know I can get it on ebay on VHS and Japanese laserdisc but it is really expensive and I would rather get it on DVD. I had heard a while back that it would be released on DVD for the 60th anniversary but never found it in a store. Is it even going to be on DVD? Or would getting the laserdisc version be my best bet?

It's never been on DVD, and Disney claims they have no plans to release it ever again due to content that could now be construed as racist.

I haven't seen it anywhere and have no idea when it's up for release from "The Vault."

I went on ebay a few years ago and bought one of those sets of Disney classics (I paid about $40 + shipping, I think, from China) for 24 discs. Most of them are in pretty good shape...though Alice in Wonderland's sound is somewhat muffly and the old Mickey & Casper cartoons don't really interest me. Then I just replace those with the new releases when they come out. I'd recommend going that route if you want it sooner than later, but beware, because some of those int'l discs won't play on our players.

Good luck!

Here's a link that might answer some questions. Don't know how legit it is.

I had read a while back that Disney wouldn't be releasing it on DVD due to racial content. I kinda see what they mean when I search my memories.
