Question:
Movies with a "Dark" atmosphere?

I'm looking for movies with a dark and gray atmosphere.

The closest genre would be black comedy, where dark and mature themes are treated with a touch of humor. Still, my concept of humor is a bit different from normal people's one. My humor consists in looking at a sad, unfortunate and surely not good event with cynicism.

Movies that i liked and that (i think) fit in the category:
Dark shadows (Yes well, something very close to this is what i'm looking for)
Alice in wonderland (It was about alice but it had its dark moments)
Snow white and the huntsman (The first time i liked snow white, really)
A Series of Unfortunate Events (This is another movie i liked for its dark atmosphere)

As you can see, they aren't full blown horrors or serious titles about war and other stuff i consider boring, but are more like fantasy tales filled with a dark and gray atmosphere. That's what i'm looking for. I liked the depressed mood and the weirdness that accompanies those titles.

I'd like it to have some kind of romance, if possible (even hints are okay, really). Also, it would be great if the protagonist age ranged from 15-25 (as i am 21). You can suggest titles that do not totally fit, but add a description and a reason.

Do not suggest animated series (as i've most likely watched them) or those movies made with computer graphics or something (Corpse bride, for example).

Thank you

PS:
If you know under which name this kind of movies goes, let me know :D

Uncut is a version of a film that may have been to a lot IE (offensive or graphic) for theatrical view and in addition extends or replaces a part you didn't see in theaters. Ex. Theatrical scene is a action big name throws a grenade at a character and it blows up. Uncut variation suggests the fellow being blown up and seeing the enemy vaporize. Or in a "sex" scene, theater version you do not see some sort of nudity. Uncut you see boobies or some guys penis.

those kind of movies go under the name "Tim Burton Movies".

half the movies you listed were made by Burton, check out the rest of his work.

If you wan't something slightly more serious and less 'fantasy'-inspired, try Spider from 2002, Requiem for a Dream from 2000 and Black Swan from 2010.

based on darkness, humor, romance, etc, I'd strongly recommend

1- "Sin City" - fun, sexy, romp in the dark with a lot of action and comic strip type characters

others that might be good

- Darkman

- V for Vendetta

- The Crow

- Most of the recent Batman movies
