He didn't want to kill Harry. People thought that he did because they also thought that Sirius had murdered all those people when he blew up the street. You later find out that Sirius didn't kill those people. Sirius wanted to get to Hogwarts because he knew that Peter Pettigrew was still alive and was at Hogwarts.

He didn't want to kill Harry, ever. It seemed like it because he kept trying to break into Hogwarts. People thought that Sirius was a Death Eater. So he was sent to Azkaban, the wizarding jail. He was framed by Peter Pettigrew, known as Scabbers, Ron's rat. Pettigrew betrayed Lily and James Potter to Lord Voldemort. Since Sirius was thought to be a Death Eater, people thought that he was appearing out of Hogwarts just to kill Harry or capture him (many Death Eaters try to kill Harry or capture him and take him to Voldemort). Sirius was after Ron's rat, Pettigrew, his enemy.

Sirius Black never wanted to kill Harry. Actually, he's trying to protect him from Peter Pettigrew. Peter was the one that helped in killing Harry's parents and Sirius was the one blamed as part of Voldemort's plans.....

He didn't want to kill Harry.

While Sirius was in Azkaban, someone heard him mutter "he's at Hogwarts" and they assumed that he meant Harry was at Hogwarts. When he broke out of Azkaban the minsitry thought that Sirius was going to try and kill Harry when really Sirius was after killing Peter Petigrew (Ron's rat) who was also at Hogwarts.

Everyone THOUGHT Sirius was trying to kill him. everyone thought he was this former death eater and they were trying to protect harry. The only person Sirius was trying to get to was Peter Pettigrew (who was in the form of a rat, Ron's rat), Pettigrew framed Sirius and is the reason Sirius went to jail. Sirius only wished the best for Harry, his godson. this was all revealed at the end of the third installment of the series.

He never wanted to kill harry, but peter Pettigrew wanted. Peter blamed Sirius for killing all the 12 muggles and betrayed James and Lily. Peter have the fault of everything.

I have just asked myself the same question on watching this movie. I even played back the bit when Sirius states he wants to kill him and then Reamus gives him the wand to do it, but tells him to tell harry why....but harry buts in and says he knows why, but he doesnt as he thinks its because Sirius led voldemort to his parents, but he didnt, Reamus and Sirius tell harry it was peter (rons rat, who wasnt really dead. ) BUT if sirius knew he didnt do it WHY did he want to kill harry in the first place, as they didnt find out peter was alive until harry saw him on the map and then they caught him and asked him!

I think there must have been abit of oversight in the plot or something, as harry found out sirius was his god father in the pub, but that doesnt answer why Sirius did state he wanted to kill harry?? Confusing. Hope the next two are better!

Actually have a look at this http://harrypotter.wikia.com/wiki/Sirius_Black

It says that Sirius actually saw peter as the rat on the newspaper picture of the weasleys holidays, and went to hogwarts to catch peter pettigrew and clear his name, so maybe when he says 'lets kill him' he means the rat, not harry as they were in the same room. Just confusing as the plot makes you 'think' he meant harry. Hope this helps, it has for me abit.

Becky P actually gave a fairly complete answer. I'll try to make it simpler.

First, Sirius had been convicted of killing a whole bunch of Muggles, one of my dad's best friends (Peter Pettigrew), *and* was blamed for leading Voldemort to my parents' hideout. So, everyone thought Sirius was an insane, murderous Death Eater loyal to Voldemort and responsible for my parents' death. They figured I was the next logical target for a serial murderer loyal to Voldemort (who "died" while trying to kill me).

BUT

In fact, Sirius was never out to get me, never killed those Muggles and never killed Peter Pettigrew. Also, Sirius was *not* the Secret Keeper for my parents, it was Pettigrew. So, in fact, Pettigrew was responsible for *everything* that had been blamed on Sirius (except for his own death, obviously, though Pettigrew framed Sirius for that by turning into a rat at the last second).

SO, you can see why people *thought* that Sirius had a very strong motive to kill me, and also that he *never did* have a motive to kill me. He was after Pettigrew - the Muggle-killer, the one who had framed Sirius for the murders (causing him to be sent to Azkaban), the one who had actually betrayed my parents (Sirius' friends) to Voldemort. Sirius found out that Pettigrew was still alive, and Sirius (*only* Sirius) knew that Pettigrew was responsible for all of these crimes.
