The next Superman (Tom Welling)?

Smallville has enjoyed great success at portraying the life of Clark Kent before his becoming the man of steel. This is in large part to Tom Welling's acting. Should he be given an opportunity to portray Superman somewhere down the road?

Yes. I believe Tom Welling has developed a large enough fan base to bring Superman to the big screen. I was hoping against all hope that he would be in Superman Returns. Instead they went for a Christopher Reeve look alike, Brandon Routh.



But, I think fans would have gotten upset with the story line put forth -- Superman having an illegitimate son.

He should be given the chance but it may not come for several years. They just made Superman Returns in 2005 and despite the fans' cries for Tom Welling as at least the young Superman, he wasn't portrayed. I think since most of his career was spent as the man of steel, he should have the chance. It worked Christopher Reeve, why not him?

Tom Welling is gorgeous but not sure about his acting ability, same with Brandon Routh to be honest - having said that Christopher Reeves was no great thespian but he carried it off well as I don't think the role demands a great acting performance . I'd say stick with Routh for now for the sake of continuity!

Maybe he's earned it, but I don't think Brandon Routh will give way that easily.. And the Superman movies are not that frequent

Well frankly I think Tom Welling is a bad actor.

he will in all likelihood continually be huge-spread for his position as Clark Kent, clone of Dean Cain will continually be huge-spread as Superman from Louis & Clark. notwithstanding, neither will be requested to revisit their rolls in yet another challenge.
