see denzell was playing out his de ja vue he used that head set thing to actually go back in time where his life was basically doubled.him dying in the under water explosion was his past life.he killed the past person and the present denzell was able to live.remember he sat in that machine that sent him physically to the past.he became doubled even though they didnt go in to detail about that.
