I find it kind of odd that so soon after we saw all those big epic WW2 movies in the late 90s like Saving Private Ryan and especially Pearl Harbor, we soon found ourselves at war. Was there a secret plan for war existing even before 9/11 that made the US Government commission Hollywood to make some big propaganda blockbusters to get young Americans in a pro-war, pro-military mood?

A great deal has been written over the years about "War Cycles".

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/War_cycles

From what I've read, there're many different cycle frequencies, some of them being quite short (around 8-9 years) some are quite long (500-1,000 years). But it's when multi-cycles coincide that we end up with society turning into lemmings.

What you've noticed is probably just a natural phenomenon; but you can certainly use it as a warning of things to come.

I just recently read that we are, at the present time, moving into a combination of cycles that are going to peak in 2020. Be warned. What you're seeing in places like the Ukraine is a harbinger of things to come.

Not necessarily, but 80s films like Top Gun and The Final Countdown probably were Cold War propaganda.
