The deal is that Neo essentially becomes a Christ-figure in this movie, so this is hard to answer. OK - this is somewhat complicated, but I'll try to explain in terms of the death scene and what happens to Neo. What happened to Neo was that he realized something the Oracle had tried to explain to him. The Oracle had said, 'Everything that has a beginning has an end'. This has everything to do with what happend to him. Neo realized that, as the Oracle had again explained to him, Agent Smith was Neo's 'opposite'. As Neo had grown in power and essentially become a god, so had Smith. Smith had even explained to Neo that he was, in many ways, responsible for creating him by 'unplugging' him, or releasing him from the constraints of the machine world ("something copied, something overwritten" Smith muses). Neo realized that they had both become gods in this place, and that the only way to destroy Smith was in his own 'destruction'. He therefore sacrifices himself to destroy Smith in the end, much in the way that Jesus Christ sacrificed himself for the sins of humanity (if you're Christian - you'll find The Matrix very heavily frought with Biblical analogies). So he lets Smith take him over or try to copy himself over Neo, but Neo's 'code' cannot be overwritten, so it destroys Smith's. He's the Ying to Smith's Yang. Christ vs. Satan. This is good vs. evil. Neo wins by sacrificing himself, but does he 'die'? Yes - his body does die, but Neo had merged with the 'Source Code' when he went through the door of light in Reloaded. He therefore becomes part of everything in the Matrix, so he does not die in that respect. When the Oracle fortells of him returning again, it would again be in the fashion he 'came back' in during the original Matrix - reincarnation. He will be reincarnated at some point. So the answer all depends on your definition of 'alive'...

They could not resist crapping the ending out. Neo=JHC

personaly I think the only good one was the first one and that was mostly for the FX.

I really found the whole Jesus reurrection will return promise and all that stuff just a bit to Lame. Especially with all the other O so cleverly hidden allegoricals. Such as the references to Zion and on and on. makes me wish Smith had shot them all in the first episode and saved me 25 bucks

In the films, yeah, he's dead. But in the game, "The Matrix: Path of Neo", it has a different ending, where you battle "Smithzilla"--a gigantic Agent Smith made of his "Me's" and scrap metal. After he's beaten by Neo, there's no indication of what happened to Neo, afterwards, but I doubt that he died. So I guess what I'm saying is, whether Neo's dead or not, is entirely up to you to believe, if you care to.

In one sense yes. Humans die.

In anoter sense no. His progrm exists within the source itself as an anomoly that must come to life again wen the Architect and the Oracle can no longer work out their differences and make the matrix make sense anymore.

If Iran had a nuke do you think of they could use it? in case you do no longer, I pity your lack of understanding. This should not be a debate of suitable and left wing politics, yet of fact. the fact is Iran is an evil government, their hatred for the west will on no account quit. And basically like in international conflict 2 if we do no longer something to end it, at last we can ought to end it at a plenty greater cost. placed your ideology to the side...

Neo can't die. Even if he does, there will always be a new version of him.

I think the well of Matrix moviegoers has been sucked dry...so, he is, unfortunately, dead.

it's really a judgement call. I like to think he died, I mean Trinity is dead, his mission has been accomplished, I think it's a good time for him to die.
