I'm trying to compile a movie collection of my favorite war movies. As you can tell from the list i'm generally not including any movies based around modern conflicts, or anything involving gunpowder weapons in general, with a few exceptions; like The Patriot, which i had to include in this list.

What im hoping is that you will notice some good movies i have forgotten or never seen/heard of for some reason. Or perhaps even good foreign movies of the same theme.

I appreciate any help!

Braveheart
Gladiator
King Arthur (extended cut)
The patriot
300 (new one)
Troy
LOTR 1,2, and 3
Kingdom of Heaven
Pitch Black, and The Chronicles of Riddick
Alexander
Pathfinder
Robin Hood (new one)
10,000 BC
Joan of Arc
A knights Tale

Decent or watchable:

The Last legion
Tristan & Isolde
First Knight
Last Samurai
Beowulf
The 13'th Warrior
Rome TV Series
Spartacus TV Series

Going by your rule, I would have to say:

Excalibur

Reign of Fire

Prince of Persia

Dragonheart

Rob Roy

Clash of the Titans (new one)

A couple of these movies might be on you decent list.

Henry V (personally I prefer the Olivier version over the Kenneth Branagh one)

Spartacus (the 1960 Kirk Douglas movie)

The Vikings (another Kirk Douglas)

Zulu (OK, so it is within the 'modern' era but one side do use spears!)

El Cid (Charlton Heston against a wonderfully demented mullah played by Herbert Lom)
Rome

The two movies that I thought of right off the bat was Full Metal Jacket and Saving Private Ryan awesome movies, with great war scenes and dialect.
