I saw it too. As soon as I finished watching it, I took off my $30,000 chain and pee-d on it for a really long time. Then I washed it off. dried it. and put it back on. Turns out they weren't conflict diamonds at all.

Yes, i watched it and did some digging (after all, the country i live in is a major player in the diamond industry). Conflict diamonds are bought and sold illegally via conflict zones to fund wars (e.g. Sierra Leone, Congo, Ivory Coast, Liberia, etc).

The only way u can ensure that your diamond is conflict-free, you have to insist that the diamonds you buy are not sourced from conflict zones (legitimate diamonds come with certification). I recently got engaged and we made sure that the diamond was legit (it was sealed and came with certification from a reputable lab). Legal diamonds go through the Kimberley process (i.e. get listed as coming from a legitimate source and can therefore be legally exported/imported). Diamonds cannot be insured if not certified by a reputable lab.

Refer http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/africa/3096515.stm and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Conflict_diamonds#.22Conflict-free.22_Diamonds for more information

There's nothing wrong with wanting a diamond, but if you highly regard humanity, morality and peace of mind, always go the certified route.

The irony to your question is that people are people. We are very dramatic. We will watch "Blood Diamonds" and be affected so much by it that we vow to never wear diamonds again. In a few months or years, after we have forgotten we will again wear those diamonds. Because in the end we all know deep in our hearts that refusing to buy the diamonds is not going to change anything, because in other countries in Africa, and all over the world, there are those who are enslaved to do more than just find diamonds. For example there are gold mines too.

Its better to go up against the companies that are exploiting countries like Africa, and demand that they change their policies. Because there is not doubt that in a few years those owners of diamonds weren't place it back on their bodies.

So lets stop lying to ourselves to make ourselves believe that we, humans, are this noble civilized race. This is because deep in our hearts we know that we are savages, and the most malevolent creatures on this planet. A race that will never stop exploiting each other.

The sad part is, it took a movie like "Blood Diamonds" to make so many people realize what is at the tip of our noses.

What a sad society we have created.

I agree and I think both starring actors should have gotten Oscars. I'm sick of Scorsese throwing something on the screen and winning best picture. Did you see Babel?? If you do email me dtwladyhawk@yahoo.com
