The future of Star Wars?

What is going to happen to Star Wars in the film/television genre? I heard there's a 3-d animated series coming out, but are there any films or television series coming out with real people (so with actual actors, not animated etc.)

I heard there was going to be some sort of television series focusing on things like Boba Fett and the Super Star Destroyer Executor - I think George Lucas was talking about it - but nothing seems to have come of it. Was it ever planned to start with? Thanks.

I have heard of the animated series, but not where or when it's going to be released. I've also heard of a TV series that feature the storyline between "The Empire Strikes Back" and "Return of the Jedi."

I know that Lucas authorized Timothy Zahn to continue the storyline after "Return of the Jedi." The result is a trilogy (and beyond) the starts with "Heirs to the Empire." Here's a link to the stories:

George Lucas has said that he wants to do a live action Star Wars series that focuses more on different characters instead of continuing the adventures of the Skywalker family. During last year's Celebration event, he said that this project was in the very early stages of production, and will go forward after his animation studios get the new "Clone Wars" cartoon off and running.

There will be a 3D animation feature being released in the theaters this summer maybe. Then there will be a television series to follow.

I takes place between Ep2 and Ep3 and focuses on Obi Wan.

The animated movie comes to theatres Aug 15 and then it will followed by a series on the Cartoon Network. I don't think there is any plans for non animated any time soon.

A few comments before the truth:

"Big Nasty" - only over rated by narrow minded people who can't think outside the box.

"ishootvideo2002" - dude, the only thing you got right in your ramble is that the movie and series are set between ep II & ep III ... the rest is bantha fodder.

Feel free to call me an arrogant fool like everybody else does but remember one thing ... I'm only arrogant when I'm right !

The second part of your question Alex ... about the Executor and Boba Fett ... empty air. I'm sure Lucas talked about it in some interview or another but even after listening to the man talk for the last 30 years I still can't tell when he's telling a "zinger" or sending us on a wild goose chase by tossing out something "he'd been wondering about doing" ... he is a master of "dis-information" ... hummm ... kind of like ... Palpatine ... lol ...

Ok, before I go farther I have to say that I had been hearing people talking about the new movie being "3-D" for a bit now but there had been nothing coming through "official channels" about it so I just spent the last hour going through every page on hyperspace about the new movie and series and there is NOTHING about it being in 3-D. The only reference I find is that they are doing the animation in a different way that can sometimes look 3-D but is not really 3-D. If you go back farther in the data banks to late 2005 early 2006 you see a flurry of posts about 3-D. These are in respect to Lucas saying that he wanted to look into putting all 6 movies out in 3-D format. As far as I can see the idea is still simmering somewhere on some back burner so it may happen someday but the new animated movie and series will NOT be "3-D".

Now, the new movie and series will be set in between ep II & ep III as has been said but it WILL focus on the many different battles of the Clone Wars ... not just on Obi-Wan as the same person also said. It will be set after Anakin has been elevated to the rank of Knight. It will have clones, clones, clones, and ... more clones. It will show how clone commanders became more "real" through relationships with the Jedi and other combat personal. IE: Commander Cody & his bond with Obi-Wan etc. It will show how the master/apprentice relationship between Obi-Wan and Anakin turned into one that was almost like brothers ... two parts of the same warrior and just how much they care and respect each other. Lucas has said that this will be a "showcase" of Anakin Skywalker, Jedi Hero. It will show him as a good, decent, honest, humble man that he was. In doing this it will make his fall to the dark side even more tragic. Much of this "Anakin the common man" will be shown through his relationship with Ahsoka Tano ... Ahsoka who are you saying ... this is a very Lucas-like twist to the story ... Ahsoka Tano is Anakin's apprentice. Ahsoka is a young and powerful padawan that was never mentioned in any story before now. She is great with her lightsaber, brash and bold in the heat of battle, takes up impossible tasks and completes them anyways ... kind of like ... Anakin. By introducing this new character Anakin finds out a little bit of how Obi-Wan had felt with him as his padawan for all those years. This "shared" experience brings Obi-Wan and Anakin even closer together as friends and Jedi. In my minds eye I can see a "perfect" scene between these 3. They are at the end of some fight where Ahsoka has lost her lightsaber in the fight and Anakin had found it and is now giving her the "this weapon is your life..." speech about word for word as the one Obi-Wan gave Anakin in episode II outside the "night club". Ahsoka gives about the same responses that Anakin gave Obi-Wan and then walks away from the scene ... then we hear a soft chuckle and Anakin turns to face Obi-Wan with a "mock" glare saying what are you laughing at ... Obi-Wan says oh nothing ... as he's saying this he is walking towards Anakin and puts his hand out and Anakin's lightsaber jumps off his belt and flies into Obi-Wan's hand. He stops in front of Anakin, who has that half grin on his face, hands him his lightsaber back and says, it just seems like I've heard that speech some where before but I can't quite place it ... they both break out laughing and head where ever it is you go in the Star Wars universe to get a "cold one". Man, as if anyone needs more proof what a Star Wars nut I am ... case closed with this one ... lol ...

The live action TV show is starting to pick up steam as Lucas used the writers strike to pull a fast one on all of us. When the strike started Lucas backed the writers and moved all the stuff for this show to England to do "casting" for it and develop a story outline. What he really did was pretty much stop everything on the live action show until the writers got a contract and went full bore on the animated movie and series. That was why it was such a "bombshell" when he unveiled that there would be a new movie this summer. Running a fan site you have to keep up with the news and I do pride myself on being in the first to "know" but Lucas got us all with this one. Yeah, we knew he was working on an animated series but a movie ... didn't see that one coming. He had us all looking at what he was doing with his left hand, which was basically nothing, while doing everything with his right hand. Got to give the man credit ... the first hint about the movie came about a week before the announcement and was only a small blurb on aintitcool.com about the rumor of a new animated movie. Lucas did get a hell of a lot of work done during the strike ... they have the out line already for a year and a half of the animated TV show and he is determined that this show will last at least 3 years but he is shooting for 5. Of course this has all had an affect on the Live Action show. In an interview released today on hyperspace Lucas said the debut has been pushed back from fall 2009 to spring 2010 but more likely fall 2010. He is in the story line phase of it and will soon be doing casting for it. As was said, this show will be set in between ep III & ep IV and won't have much if anything about the "Skywalkers" in it ... I hope not, I don't really want to see Luke Skywalker, hero of the galaxy, running around in diapers ... lol ... This show will show how the Rebel Alliance came into being and will show their many battles against the Empire leading up to the events of ep IV. Here's a couple links to info about the movie and series:

PS: I almost forgot, in the trailers I have seen so far we get to "see" a couple of duels that were talked about but never done ... Anakin's duel with a clone of Dooku ... Obi-Wan's duel with Ventress. Should be good.
