Hello - I heard that the horse in "THE NEVER ENDING STORY" really died during the filming due to a prop error. Hydrolics, or something, failed to raise him back out of the swamp. Does anyone know if this is really true or not? I'm dying to know. Thanks!

It is very true which makes the scene even more sad. The platform that they used to lower the horse broke and wouldn't stop. Eventually the horse really did drown on set. :-(

I do. I'm quite happy to be alive. Life a privilege and I understand that death is a part of it. The quote is saying that death shouldn't be feared. Never having the chance to exist sounds more terrifying than death. Edit: I also like this quote "Death will be the absence of pain, so enjoy the pain for now" (or something to that) by Tommy Chong

I don't think it's true. It could come from the fact that:

"Noah Hathaway (Atreyu) was hurt twice during the making of the movie. During his horse riding training he was thrown off a horse which then stepped on him. Then during the shooting of the drowning sequence in the "swamp of sadness" his leg got caught on the elevator and he was pulled under water. He was unconscious by the time he was brought to the surface. "

IMDB would defiantly say if the horse HAD died during filming, they make no bones about the fact that a minor was hurt (actually) 3 times during filming.

I did some online searching and although there are conflicting views on the death of the horse I think that the answer is no.

This website is about the making if the movie:

You would have to ask Atreyu. Rumor has it he is writing a tell all book about the Artex story because he has not been able to land any gigs in hollywood since The Never Ending Story..

Artex that was his name in the movie. I hope he didn't die.
