Ajith (born May 1, 1971 in Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh, India) is a immensely popular Tamil actor and a race car driver with a huge fan following. He is affectionately called offscreen as Thala (The Head) by his fans and is titled onscreen as Ultimate Star in his movies.

As an actor

'Special Actor' State Award in 2004 for the film Poovellam Un Vasam (2001)

Film fare Award, Cinema Express Award and Dinakaran Cinema Award for the film Vaali 1999

Film fare Award and Dinakaran Cinema Award for the film Villan in 2003

Best New Face Award from Bharatmuni Art Academy for his debut film 'Prema Pusthakam' (Telugu).

He is also a recipient of Cinema Express Best Artist Award for the year 2000.



As a race car driver

He has participated in the Indian Formula Maruthi Championshipsin 2002.

He has participated in the Formula 3 BMW Asia championships in 2003 for Indian Team.

Both are waste... both have given lots of flops ... they dont deserve to be in the line of: MGR-Sivaji, Rajni-Kamal , etc The fans are just some kids and teens who blindly support these guys when they grow up, they'll not be fans of these two anymore.. just check facebook ... vijay has 79 thousand fans and surya has about 5 lakh..!! vijay -ajith are failing recently.. but ajith has given a hit - makatha(2011)... his last hit was billa(2007).... all other movies in these 4 years flop(except kireedom- average)

ajithis a better actor than vijay or surya doesnt mean i hate vijay.i just hate surya. vijay does only commercials.

but coming to character roles ajith has vaali(negative role n deaf n dumb role which is physically challenged),mankatha,billa,varalaru. billa was not as good as thalaivar s screen presence but the role of don n villain was praised by critics. physically challenged roles added to vaali villain n varalaru were superb. both ajith n vijay had flops n hits but ajith was the one who made a stunning comeback in varalaru both in box office n in actign which fetched 2 state filmfare awards n 2 more private awards. but for vijay he had just BO success not his individual acting. 23 years almost have passed on in vijay s acting carrer but still he needs to give a hit n earn a positive review from critics in the role of a don, triple action(yet to act in this role),physically challenged role n villain(negative shade) role. it took 22 and a half years for vijay to give a hit in katthi in dual role where as ajith gave it in 1999 the first film he featured in dual role and negative role n also had filmfare awards for that role. so thala stands all above vijay. but vijay too cant be underestimated but acting even now he needs to break the barriers.
