Question:
Confusing things about Harry Potter?

I watching all the Harry Potter films in a row the other day and a few things really confused me. Why, in deathly hallows part 2, when Hermionie is Bellatrix can't they show the goblin Bellatrix's wand when harry took it from Draco at Malfoy Manor? And Avadra Kederva is illegal, so why, in the goblet of fire, does "Mad Eye" use it to kill the spider thing, or is it only illegal to use it on animals, and I know it wasn't really Mad Eye. There's ghosts in Harry Potter, like Moning Mrytele and St. Nicholas, so why don't Harry's parents and Dumbledoor and Mad Eye come back as ghosts? Maybe I'm just paying way too much attention lol. Thanks :)

When Hermione is Bellatrix, the reason why she can't show the wand is because Bellatrix has reported it stolen (they explain this in the book.) At that point they knew exactly who stole the wand, so it is dangerous to wave the wand around pretending to be Bellatrix because it is a red flag saying "Hey, Harry Potter and friend here!!"

Yes, the Avada Kedavra curse is illegal, but Moody was using it to show the effects of the Unforgivables to the students, even though it wasn't really Moody, but Barty Crouch Jr. He was actually trying to scare the hell out of the students, and since "Moody" used to be an Auror and therefore used to work for the Ministry of Magic, he got away with using the curse for educational reasons.

The reason Harry's parents, Dumbledore, and Mad Eye didn't come back as ghosts is because they weren't afraid of death and/or didn't have anything truly tying them to the world. Sir Nicholas had a botched beheading and was scared of death, so he ended up becoming a ghost and walking the earth he didn't really want to leave. Myrtle stayed behind to haunt Olive Hornby who made Myrtle's life a living hell at Hogwarts. The Potters, Dumbledore and Moody may not have been ready to die, but they were not afraid of it, they were not afraid to leave the earth when their time came.

ok

1. Bellatrix reported the wand missing so they didn't want to show the wand incase the goblin snitched on them- goblins aren't very trustworthy and do things often to benefit themselves. So if the goblin was threatened or in danger he would rat Harry and his friends out in an instant.

2. Mad Eye is known to be just that, mad. But he's like the rebel wizard. And he was just using the spell in education, although killing the spider upset Neville and Hermione so he could have been reported. However Moody used a spell on Neville in the beginning to make him forget what happened. That's where he suggests a cup of tea to him. Otherwise he probably would've been reported. And no the killing spell is illegal for anything you cast it on. Also he gets leeway because he's Dumbledore's friend.

3. I think that Sir Nicholas and Moaning Myrtle both died at Hogwarts, and Myrtle was young and alone so perhaps this was Dumbledore's intention to keep her there. Nicholas was the ghost of Gryffindor because he'd been in that house since a young boy- possibly the first out of his year to die? Not sure

The first answer is really accurate, and the thing is that in the movies they don't depict certain things that would easily answer your questions so to extend a little further:

1- In the movie is not shown, but when Hermione, Ron and Harry and Griphook (under the invisibility cloak) are walking in Diagon Alley towards Gringotts they encounter a Death Eater called Travers who tells her that he is amazed to see her (Bellatrix) in Diagon Alley since he's heard that after the last escape (meaning Harry and the others from Malfoy Manor) everyone had been punished and confined in the house. So when they arrive to Gringotts is no surprise the Goblins are completely aware that Bellatrix Lestrange should not be there and as they've told you before: asking for the wand was a trick question because only an impostor could have the stolen wand. They had spent weeks planning their entrance to the Lestrange's vault, but as Harry said their plan had been all wrong because they never realized until they were there that their plan is what gave them away.

2- I think this you can answer with common sense: is not illegal to kill a fly, but it's illegal to kill a human. Same here, and he's also using it to instruct. As a matter of fact. Barty Crouch Jr. does an excellent job in imitating the real Mad-Eye Moody because all those eccentricities are his signature.

3- Harry asks himself this question after the death of Sirius and Nearly Headless Nick tells him that Sirius will not come back because very few wizards choose to stay behind in the imprit they left of themselves in Earth. Nick says that he stayed behind because he was afraid of death, another example is the Bloody Baron (Slytherin's ghost) who stayed behind as punishment for killing the Gray Lady (Ravenclaw's ghost).

1. When Hermione is disguised as Bellatrix in Gringott's, she doesn't show the goblin the wand because they know the wand was stolen from Bellatrix and by showing the wand they would be revealing that they were the thieves and are also imposters.

2. Avada Kedavra is an illegal spell but I think it works in the same way as any other murder does - people may use the spell even though it is illegal but may or may not get caught using it.

3. For Harry's parents and Mad-Eye, they did not die within Hogwarts premises, so therefore could not return as a Hogwarts ghost. In Dumbledore's case, he had accepted his fate and chose to die instead.

All three of these are explained in the books better than the movies. I suggest you read them. To wit, however:

A) The goblin asking for Bellatrix's wand is a trick question: they know her wand has been stolen, so if Hermione were to show she has it, they'd know for certain she was an impostor.

B) To paraphrase from the book: the use of any of the Unforgivable Curses on another human being guarantees a life sentence in Azkaban. Using one on a spider is no more illegal than killing a spider in real life would be considered murder.

C) Coming back as a ghost is considers a coward's path, because you can't properly move on to the afterlife. Its only something someone who is afraid of death would do.
