Hi. killzone.

I saw Prometheus and I'd give it a score of 8/10, and you and I share alot of similar thoughts. It probably will have pretty good replay value. Anyway, whilst 20 minutes or so into the film, I instantly drew comparisons to 2001, Blade Runner and Alien. Both 3 are great films, no questions asked however I got the constant impression that Scott didn't draw inspiration from anything else. David, ironically enough, reminded me so much of David in A.I Aritifical Intelligence: an artificial human being who hasn't been around enough or are unable to develop cynicism. If it wasn't for Michael Fassbender's great performance, he would be unable to interest me further. The echos of Alien rather annoyed me at times, the whole ''last man standing'' was rather obvious and I could detect it a mere 20 minutes into the film, through the idoicy of the two characters that you mentioned. The medical procedure scene where Elizabeth Shaw is pregnaunt was incredibly well done in my opinion.

I think Scott wanted to make an Alien, yet a more complex one. He clearly loves Blade Runner (with the 10 + cuts that are available) so he wanted to mix the philosphy and ideas of life into a horror/ science fiction framework, and with the questions regarding existence and time were very reminiscent of 2001: A Space Odyseey. He succeeded in intriguing the audience, and I thought Roger Ebert wrote a pretty accurate review of it, however Scott failed with the dialogue and the writing. Some lines felt way too obvious (David is the centerpoint character for philosphy of it, so it seemed a bit too obvious for him to say questions. I tend to like my movies where dialogue isn't much of an emphasis, as I find it detracts from the imagery. Prometheus fails in terms of dialogue, writing, characters, etc by resorting to cliches never really developing the images, however overall, it is a success as it is so different to what is being offered at the moment, and that's always a good sign in my books, it is generally scary and intriguing.

BQ: I haven't seen it, unfortunately even though I really would like to

BQ2: No way. The Amazing Spiderman kind of comes across as a bit to, well, trendy? If that makes sense. Marc Webb doesn't really impress me that much, and the whole film feels unnecessary. It will fail to push the action barrier which The Avengers managed to do

BQ3: Depends entirely on Bane. What I thought was so strong about The Dark Knight was not necessarily The Joker, but the deep psychological banter between The Joker and the city of Gotham. If Nolan can manage to do that with Bane and Batman or Gotham and add something extra, then yes.

BQ4: Lol no. I love the nerdy, dorky feel to the first three, say what you want :)

BQ5: It's been really cold at Sydney (well cold in Sydney-sider terms). About 20 or so degrees or similar. It's coat weather :)

hope you are going well, hope to answer more qs from you in the future :)

Lol apologize now or else! It's cool.

Hey KZ! :)

First of all I watched this interview a few hours ago (the first few min are the main parts) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7qz_hoOQ8GQ

I really, really enjoyed the movie. Damon Lindelof is one of the main writers of the film, and he's the creator of Lost. I don't know if you're familiar with the show but for me, I can tell this is Lindelof's writing because it shares the same sortof unpredictability and mystery that Lost had throughout its run. I'm assuming when you say "pre-climax horror movie monster fodder" you're referring to when those two guys got left out in the cave? I kinda think that was necessary (albeit very predictable...) that obvious no one was watching the recording to save them and that cliched stupidity that's there in most horror films. It definitely could've been written better.

My favourite part was definitely the bit where Noomi Rapace's character goes through the C-section. I already knew she's a fantastic actress (Girl With The Dragon Tattoo), but she's constantly surprising. I loved that scene a lot, and the themes of birth and life contrasting with the theme of "prometheus" (where zeus gave fire to the humans and regretted it) same sort of thing "the engineers created the humans but want to kill them now" It's so intriguing, like I can ponder about this for ages- this. I think, is a major strength for the movie (and weakness for certain people) because on one side of the coin fans argue there isn't enough action like the Alien films but .Prometheus tells a much bigger story, more complex story which some fans (like me) will love.

In that sense, I get why people might hate it and why they'll love it. You can't please everyone. The important thing I think is watching the movie and judging it as a separate entity in itself, not as something attached to the Alien films - it revisits Alien territory but in a whole different light.

BA: I was lucky enough to see it at the cinema, I live in Long Island so I had to travel pretty far. But it was so worth it.

BA2: I don't know, I don't think so (I'd love to be wrong!) For me, it'll top The Avengers I don't think it will for others. Just because people are stupid and will always compare it to the original, even though this movie stays true to the story with Stan Lee as one of the writers.

BA3: Yup, Tom Hardy is an amazing actor if people would fault this movie it'd be the lack of Ledger but Hardy's got enough talent in his pinky than a lot of actors. They couldn't have found a better villain.

BA4- You know lots of people said that when Nolan was coming out with his Batman re-boot "so many Batman movies have been done before, what'll make this so special bla bla bla" I mean :/ it's just a movie, I think it's necessary because even though it's a reboot it still deserves to be watched as a film on it's own.

BA5- It's okay, kinda windy but no rain (thank god!)

Good to see you in the movies section! And I love long essays, so it's fiinee :)

Scott’s storytelling style is visceral as ever. We can see every dollar of the mega-millions spent, particularly on the production design of the alien universe (on which renowned Swiss artist HR Giger collaborated).

some of that money might have been put to better use on the script, which suffers from delusions of profundity. The crew, comprising the usual mélange, including an African-American captain and his Asian subordinate, indulge in yackety-yak.

One of the film’s deeply disturbing sequences involves the termination of an unwanted pregnancy. Viewers are likely to experience physical discomfort during the medical procedure; the flawless 3D effects contribute to the overall impact.

The cast is well-chosen, with Michael Fassbender the real standout as the spaceship’s resident android.

Prometheus is recommended viewing, especially for the obsessive sci-fi aficionado.

but i think it could have been better.

HOPE IT HELPED! :)

I actually thought it was alright. Not as good as Alien or Aliens of course, but it was okay. The only thing was that the scientists were kind of dumb. I mean, why was that one guy reaching out to touch the alien that came from the black goo? Still, the very end was awesome and I can't wait to see the rest of the Alien prequel trilogy (Ridley Scott said that the next movie will go farther from Alien but the movie after that will bridge Alien with Prometheus and its sequel).

I think the main thing that could have been better (other than better writing, which you've already pointed out), would have been having more interesting (or even likable) characters.

As you mentioned, the deaths of the jerk geologist and moron biologist didn't really have any impact. These guys were both supposed to be scientists, but they simply filled the role of so many retarded, throwaway teenage characters from so many 1980s and 1990s slasher flicks (i.e. they simply raised the body count).

Logan Marshall-Green's character was another big douche bag; when David purposely infected him, I was like "Yeah Dave, get his a$$!" (though perhaps that was Holloway's job in the story: being a too-cool-for-all-of-this, pretty boy, hipster-wannabe that the audience WANTS to see killed). At least he was semi-heroic during his first "death" though.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying everybody should have been a do-gooder saint or a genius, but with the exception of David, nobody was very likable or interesting (though maybe that was the point; the best individual among this crew of self-absorbed, petty people was the robot servant).

None of the above applies to Charlize Theron though - as long as that Amazon superwoman keeps showing up in science fiction and horror films, she the bee's knees to me. She made that environment suit sing, let me tell ya! Oh yeah, and she's a kick a$$ actress too.

And oddly, after Noomi Rapace's character had the "alien removal surgery" in the auto-doc, she became very interesting and sexy to me. I think it was because the character showed real guts (no pun intended) and determination; she started being real a go-getter after being rendered so vulnerable. Before that, she was just somebodies' whiny girlfriend.

(Yes, in hindsight I'm aware that she was meant to fill the "Ripley role", but at the time I didn't recognize her as the actress who played Lisbeth Salander, and so it crept up on me).

All that being said, I LOVED the film. It was classic Ridley Scott science fiction and the production design was frickin' awesome. I'll certainly buy a copy when it comes out.

BA1: I do not know what you are referring to sir.

BA2: I doubt it. The Avengers was damn good movie.

BA3: We'll see. Maybe.

BA4: Um, probably not. The first three aren't even cold yet (though number 3 wasn't very good).

BA5: Well, I live over here in humid-a$$ Virginia, and it's supposed to be triple digits all this weekend and all next week. I personally don't mind the heat some much, it's feeling like I'm walking around in a giant sauna every time I go outside that I dislike.

Cheers dawg!

unrealistic in many ways first off the total match unlikely more like exceedingly close given that the aliens for some reason had such a different body another thing they should have instead have had have the alien fetus instead of the squid and the fetus should have been a queen and instead when she opened the door one of the small ones i cant remember what they are called should have come out also it would have made for a much more interesting movie if at the very least the alien hd told them why they made them and then killed them also why didn't the blond one jump to the side like the brunette and finally why did the alien commit suicide at the beginning

I haven't seen Prometheus, but might tonight. If I do I'll edit... but I wanna answer the BQs

BQ- I went to New York City and saw it a week after it came out. That's when it was only in 4 theaters in the nation...

BQ2- honestly it's possible but I don't think so. I don't know what to expect from the new Spider-Man, I hope it's good though

BQ3- Maybe. the trailer really did not impress me

BQ4- not really, but who cares. based on the people involved, it could be worse

BQ5- right now it's early so it's only 75, but yesterday it was 96. I like it

also, some big breaking news. as of today, Moonrise Kingdom is in the IMDb top 250 at #243
