i am not sure. i like watching the older movies but i also enjoy seeing a movie that is more up to date.
i mean in Total recall the reboot looked more futuristic than the other movie.
what i did enjoy about total recall is that the movie was different in a way from the older version so it was not like the exact same story.
anyway what are your views of movies being rebooted

There are only two valid reasons for doing a reboot/remake.

1. When the original movie was made at a time when the special effects it needed weren't available, or there wasn't enough money to do them right. For example, "The Thing from Another World" (1951) and "The Thing" (1982). The original is fine as it is, but the remake is a hell of a lot more effective thanks to much better special effects.

2. When you genuinely have something to add to the original story, or you have a different take on it. The perfect example here is "Invasion of the Body Snatchers". The 1956 original still holds up well today, even if we aren't afraid of Commie agents infiltrating suburban America. Clearly, the movie touched on something more fundamental (Fear of suburban conformity?). The 1978 remake takes the same idea, but sets it in a major city - so the remake is perhaps about urban isolation and alienation (how you can be alone and isolated despite being surrounded by people - what do you really know about the other people in your apartment building?).

Doing a reboot or remake just because you can is a waste of time and money. Look, if you want to make another Batman movie because they rake in the dough, fine. Go right ahead and make another Batman movie. But how many f*ing times are we going to have to see another origin story? Everyone on the planet pretty much knows who Batman is and how Bruce Wayne became Batman. Pick a villain, and make the movie already. Don't reboot the franchise, EXTEND the franchise!

I'm one of very few that likes a good reboot. I just like seeing a new take on the film, like new actors, new look, new ideas. As a matter of fact there's two remakes that are coming out this year that I am mega excited for, Carrie and Evil Dead.

It's very common that a remake will be awful and just spoil the films name, such as Friday the 13th, The Fog & Mr. Deeds

Very few have lived up to there originals standards, like Dawn of the Dead, the more recent Fright Night, The Amazing Spiderman, Let Me In & King Kong. And I really do love too see a great film modernised, though not as good as the original, still good.

arrie is my favourite film of all time and I can't wait to see a new version of it. But when a remake come

I do like the idea of a remake, and if I hear a film I like is being remade, I would look forward to seeing it, but I am aware that it's probably going to flop.

I think they can be really great and also really pointless. I just recently watched Spider-Man (2002) and The Amazing Spider-Man for the first time, and I liked the original ("original") Spider-Man, but I loved The Amazing Spider-Man. Fantastic Four (2015) was a good (not great) movie in my opinion, but it was sort of pointless. I haven't seen the original (2005) version yet, but there's no way the 2015 one was better than it.

I think Richard had some good points, so I'll just leave my answer at that.

Now, everyone is saying this movies series needs a reboot or that movie series needs a reboot. In general the series should just come to an end.Take Fantastic Four, everyone hated the reboot.I personnally liked the original Spider Man trilogy better than The Amazing Spiderman 1 and 2 or X Men First Class and X Men Apocalyspse. How often is the actor playing a main or key charactor replaced and it is a success.
