Does anyone else think the idea of making a Transformers movie is ridiculously funny? Isn't the whole primacy of the movie based on a Japanese toy line? It just seems funny to me that their making this serious action movie which targets an adult audience that features giant metamorphosing killer robots attacking earth.

WTF? Spiderman was based on a comic! I think batman is cheesy, but it doesn't do bad. Ghostbusters started out as cartoon and those moavies are classics. Transformers actually seems more "real" than a boy being bitten by a radioactive spider , shooting webs out of wrist, and wearing that costume-now how could they make a movie out of something so silly. War of Worlds doesn't make sense either, if the alien put those walking alien pod things under ground millions of years ago, don't you think their technology would advance to the point where they could just push a button and destroy everybody on the planet. I mean look how far are technology has advanced in the last 100 years....1000 years or so on. So no it is not a silly primacy at all.

I think that it is hard to market this type of movie to a large audience, especially an audience where only a few understand the premise and the history behind the movie. Some people may go if they like robots and don't know what the Transformers are about. Some may go to see action and things blowing up. Many will go for Special FX. And many die hard Transformers fans who grew up watching the show, like those answering this question will also be there. It's not a ridiculously funny idea. It's like asking someone to surpress his/her imagination. You may not like that imagination based on your mind-set but, it's only one persons opinion as to how to portray this idea on the big screen. This is only one way to portay this genre. I just wish that there was an easier way to mass market this type of film and other films surrounding classic cartoons, comic book characters, cult video game characters, etc. I think there will be a sequel to this movie based on how it ended, but that's just my opinion.

Transformers was originally a Japanese cartoon that came to America in the early to mid 1980s. Yes there was a very successful toy line based on it. I think it's a great idea to make a movie based on Transformers, because it has a built in audience. Everyone who grew up with Transformers will be lining up to see it, much like the rumored "GI Joe: A Real American Hero" movie.

Well, the movie was good. I think you should see it. Actually they came out with the movie to target adults because back in the day that was a popular toy. So, the people who remember the toy are adults. Children will like the movie to because of the graphics. The people who did the graphics did a great job!

That movie kicked a_ss and heck they made a movie about everything else. You have to be a true transformer fan to really understand. Hey this movie is proof that we had kool toys as kids! If your not in your 30's then this movie probably won't make since and you ask questions like the one your asking.

Transformers was an awesome movie. The people like me that grew up watching transformers in the 80's are now in our twenties. I've been waiting for this movie for 20 years.

Because the people who grew up watching Transformers are older now, so therefore it would make sense to make the film targeted at those people.

Besides, it's no more ridiculous than the other summer blockbusters out there.

The toy line is AMERICAN!!! Its made by HASBRO not TAKARA! And you seemingly have no idea what you are talking about because the robots dont all want to attack earth, half want to defend it and save us and the other half want to destroy it, hence the movie poster PROTECT and DESTROY. Autobots want to protect us from the Decepticons, who want to destroy the earth and us. Read up silly person. Do you live in a hole and just blurt out things or do you read the movie information??

You know, you might wanna check out the history about something before you knock it.

I'm at odds with whether or not I approve of the movie being a kid of the 80's and seeing the cartoons.

So it was Japanese. So what. The world watched American stuff, so why shouldn't we import and enjoy what they bring to the table.

Yes it's crazy like someone making a movie about a man with spider powers or a film about pirates and some of them are dead ones too.Insane.

Yeah it doesn't look too good. It's the kind of stuff a 10 year old would like, yet it's rated PG-13.
