Question:
Does Dennis Quaid play piano in "Great Balls of Fire"?

Showtime says Dennis Quaid really played piano in the Jerry Lee Lewis biopic "Great Balls of Fire." It also says it used a double and the piano-playing hand shots were of the double. I saw Dennis Quaid jamming with Jerry Lee Lewis on you tube (probably working on technique for the movie). Does anyone know how much in "Great Balls of Fire" Dennis Quaid actually played? Thank you.

The close up shots of the hands playing th piano where you would see the technique will be the double all the rest of it will be Dennis Quaid. I would also expect the music/soundftrack on the film to have been Quaids piano playing rather than the double.

Dennis Quaid is really playing the piano. Pianist/singer Jason D. Williams, often compared to Jerry Lee Lewis in looks and musical performance, also served as Quaid's double. The filmmakers used Williams' hands for the piano parts in the film. Williams also found himself teaching Dennis Quaid how to play a few parts, which Quaid quickly picked up. At the time of filming, Quaid had played the guitar for 20 years but had only played the piano for two years.
