Logan's run. The movie was shot in a mall. The city is not underground, it is actually in a dome. Logan and his lady friend do crawl underground through the pipe system of the city in order to escape. Logan is actually undercover, trying to locate the path that other fugitives have been taking. The premise is that there are limited resources and the outside world is poisoned, so no one passed 30 years of age is allowed to live since their physical usefulness begins to suffer from diminished returns. This expiration date is determined by the color of a crystal on the hand. When Logan goes undercover, the city super computer artificially changes the color of Logan's crystal and makes him a fugitive.
The Aeon Flux movie was extremely similar as far as the contained city is concerned. THX 1138 by George Lucas is strikingly similar, but much more artistically done. I would recommend checking out both of these alternatives. From what I remember, Logan's Run is pretty mediocre, even for 1980s standards.
Oh, by the way, pick me, pick me :)

Logans Run. the crystal changed colour and they were entered into a game like thing, but Logan discovers that when they reach a certain age they are killed, and that there is an outside world which is not contaminated and its ok to grow old.
