OK .... I understood that the Elder Wand had to pass to the wizard who killed its previous owner. Please can someone explain the line of progression of the wand throughout the film. I'm confused about the Malfoy/Snape bit and with Malfoy's wand changing its allegiance.. Also who did Dumbledore kill previously, for it to have passed to him?

The wand belonged to Gregorovotch, a wandmaker. It was stolen by Gellery Grindelwald Dumbledore's childhood friend, who later turned into a dark wizard. Dumbledore dueled him and took the wand. Malfoy later disarmed him making him the true master of the wand. Harry later disarmed malfoy making him the master

You don't actually need to kill the owner for the wands allegiance to pass to you, that's just what everyone believed. A simple disarming spell would do the trick.

It was explained on this T.V programme about Harry Potter that the wand was very powerful so therefore would pass onto any owner that was deemed more powerful than its current one e.g someone killing the owner of the wand so the wand would think the killer is more powerful. It is said repeatedly that the wand chooses the wizard and because it's a wand so powerful, it changes hands easier than most.

The wand started of with one of the 3 brothers, it got passed from owner to owner until it got to Gregoravitch (a wand maker, he actually made Victor Krum's wand), Grindlewald stole it of him, Dumbledore duelled with Grindlewald and won it from him, Draco Malfoy disarmed Dumbledore on the astronomy tower (this is were he is killed by Snape and that's how Voldemort believes Snape is the master of the wand) then at Malfoy Manor after being snatched, Harry wins the wand from Malfoy.

Death (assuming The Tale of the Three Brothers is true) > Antioch Peverell > various wizards throughout history > Gregorovitch > Gellert Grindelwald > Albus Dumbledore > Draco Malfoy > Harry Potter

Prof. Snape killed Prof. Dumbledore, but since Malfoy disarmed and overpowered Dumbledore first, the wand changed allegiance to Malfoy instead.

Dumbledore dueled the evil wizard Grindiwald who was a former friend. He didn't kill him though. Wands change their allegiance to a wizard to defeated the last owner, not necessarily killed. On the astronomy tower in the sixth book/movie, Draco disarmed Dumbledore, at that moment the wand changed allegiance. Then Snape killed Dumbledore. Later, Voldemort took the wand from Dumbledore's corpse. He thought it was his, but it obviously wasn't since it wasn't working properly for him. He then killed Smape because Snape killed Dumbledore; Voldemort was just pretty ignorant of wandlore. Harry wrested the wands from Draco's hands by force. Harry then became the master of the elder wand without knowing at the time. Although he didn't physically take the exact wand, the wand knew its old master had been defeated by Harry.

Draco first disarmed Dumbledore, therefor the elegance went to him. This is before Snape killed Dumbledore.

Dumbledore defeated Grindelwald in a duel. He did not kill.

And the wand being Harry's is because at the Malfoy Manor, Harry took Draco's wand, therefor taking the allegiance of the elder wand.

It's a tad confusing. But if you read the book you'll get it.

The wand was made by Antioch Peverell. One of the 3 brothers. He was a wand maker. The story was simply a tale parents told their kids.

Malfoy disarmed Dumbledore, so now he's the owner of the wand but Snape killed Dumbledore. Harry disarmed Malfoy so now he's the owner of the wand

its no longer who kills the owner of the wand. Its who disarms the wand from the owner, or defeats the owner. remember dumbledore defeated Grindlewand and he remains alive in a reformatory. while Malfoy got here to Dumbledores place of work to homicide him, Malfoy disarmed his wand(the elder wand), which makes him the owner of the Elder wand. Then in e book 7, at Malfoy Manor, Harry fights over the wands that Malfoy has in his possession whilst attempting to flee with Dobby. Harry takes Malfoys wand which in return, Harry takes the possession of the Elder wand(yea that area is kinda iffy cuz technically Malfoy didnt hav the wand yet thats JK Rowling for ya) and then Harry became the wand's proprietor and why Voldemort use of the Elder wand with the killing curse might backfire cuz the wand doesnt injury its proprietor. i assume Voldemort didnt study thats its purely disarming the owner of the wand that transfers the possession, fairly than the killing of the owner. Thats why Snape wasnt the owner and why the possession became in no way transferred to Voldemort while he killed Snape.

They don't tell us who Dumbledore killed, probably an evil wizard because Dumbledore wouldn't kill someone good. And then Snape killed Dumbledore, BUT it was actually techinacly Malfoy who killed him because he was supposed to. Than, when Harry saved Malfoy from death, it became his.

It's kinda confusing if you don't pay complete attention

it is not killing, it is disarming to get the wand.

draco disarmed dumbledore - elder wand is draco's

harry disarms draco - all draco's wands become harry's

voldemort uses the wand, but it doesnt work properly for him as it is not his wand.
