Personally I always hear a sequel will NEVER be as good as the original but I think that's bullsh*t. People will hate the movie because it's a sequel and always compare it to the original instead of looking at it as a new movie instead of the sequel that it is.

Case in point The Matrix. I like the first one, I do think it's the best of the Trilogy & is the best action film I've seen & one of the greatest films I've ever seen. The Matrix: Reloaded I thinks it's almost equal to the first by a narrow margin, it had more action, fast paced the best sequel to a movie I've seen & again in of the greatest action films. The Matrix: Revolutions it's certainly a HUGE step down from the first two but still watchable (especially the final battle of Smith vs. Neo, which is one of the best fights in the trilogy to me.)

Terminator. Great movie another to my action list. Terminator 2 even better than the first. Terminator 3 I will admit was a f*ck in the franchise but we have a sequel better than the original.

Halloween. Classic horror movie, II was better by a narrow margin. Halloweens 3-5 & H20 are good sequels but again a sequel that's better than the original.

I think that a lot of sequels are motivated purely by profit, they made a successful movie and now are going to piggyback off of that success. I don't have a problem with sequels in general, but I do have a problem with making a shitty movie just because you know people will go see it.

Of course everything comes down to personal opinion but there are two reasons why I dislike sequels. The first of which is a lot of sequels basically rehash what went on it the first movie, maybe giving us a couple of new characters and a different location but follow an almost identical storyline with little variance. And that not only means you are comparing it to the original but because it is rehashing it usually does it in a weak way.

The other reason is that far too often sequels are made not because there was a need for another movie but because the studios wanted to capitalize on the profit making potential of a movies popularity. Take Final Destination did we really need sequels which basically did the same thing as the first movie, for me no and the longer the series went on the worse they became.

It's true. I have never seen a sequel as good as the first one. I don't hate sequels, but I just don't like them as much as the first one. Also generally the first movies in series are how everything began, and what brought everything on, and I like seeing things introduced. The first movie is always the best.

Sometimes sequels can be the same like the first movie
