I am currently in the process of writing a movie script and a tv series, and I was wondering if anyone had any advice, or keys to making it excellent...they are both sci-fi.

As long as there are characters that people can relate to and identify with and the plot grabs the viewer and makes them want to see what happens, then you will have a good piece of writing.

Good luck!

Okay, I'm a filmmaker so I know a thing or two about screenwriting as I write my own "masterpieces". One of the biggest things is ORIGINALITY. Sci-fi? Okay, do your sci-fi without aliens, predators, lightsabers and stuff like that from sci-fi movies. Be completely original. Since EVERY idea in the world has been used in a media, add lots of twists to keep the audience interested. Come up with odd names that are rarely heard of. Good luck to you!

Scene !:Protagonist is chased around for 12 minutes then climbs a tree antagonist starts to cut down the tree.

Go to Commercial

Scene 2:Tree falling Protagonist jumps and rolls away as tree lands, gets up and runs away.

Note: Pay attention to continuity, forget gratuitous sex and violence. It only distract viewer if it is not integral to the story.

There is an inexpensive book that is rather good, dealing with storyboards and timing called How To Shoot a Movie. You might be able to find it at the Library.

Good Luck

I don't think it's a matter of overshadowing, I think there's a time problem. People think they are too busy to read. There are still a lot of us dinosaurs out here who like to read. As for young people today, they just don't want to or don't have the attention span to read books, which is a shame. And it shows in the way they write and read. They can't spell and they don't know what commas and other punctuation are for. Reading is a great fundamental aid and no one today takes advantage of it. Movies, television, and video games are not overshadowing reading, they are completely obliterating it. The further we go into technology, the farther back we go into civilization.

a new idea that everyone will appeal to. It is hard to get a good idea for a script that everyone will like. That's why people get paid a lot for good ideas. Good luck.

love interest, free spirited individualistic hero, triumph, a hidden secret. Don't do death its to cliche unless you can find a good way to do it. Good luck with that.

Dont be predictable, be risky and bold, dont write thinking of what would be acceptable for others- write according to YOUR standards...
