According to a article, once Smith finishes MIB 3 and one other movie, he is gonna do 2 sequels to Independence Day.

It isnt said yet but it might be done like Matrix 2 and 3 where they are only seperated by a few months. But will definately be filmed back to back.

Story lines that first surfaced after the first one were:

The aliens were not all dead, and human survivors must fight the invasion.. But during it they will use alien technology found in the crashed ships.

2nd story line: A new fleet of ships is headed towards earth, and earth's only hope is to find technology amongst the ruined ships.

I really like Independence Day, so I'm not really excited about the prospect of a sequel*. However, I do like Will Smith. With a good script, it could work. I just hope it is more than a money grab.

*The reason I'm not excited about a sequel is because they almost never live up to the original movie. I also think Will Smith has matured considerably as an actor in the 14 years since ID4.
