Question:
Why are modern movies so bad?

Why are modern TV shows and movies so bad? I have no enjoyment going to see films anymore.
I think that the films of the late 70s, all 80s and all 90s were far superior to what is made today beginning with star wars in 1977.

All films today seem to be all image no substance, the trailers show all the best parts of the film crammed into a 90 second trailer so I have already seen the best parts. In the past trailers really were teasers and you really wanted to see what the film was about.

Another problem I have noticed is the special effects are now completely over the top it makes the film unrealistic and directors now seem be taking the technology for granted "Forget a good story line the audience will be to awe struck but the special effects to notice the story line and acting totally sucks"

Another problem I have noticed they now release new films every 2 seconds you cannot keep up. Back in the 80s and 90s new blockbusters came out once in a while there was much anticipation and you could not wait until the release date to go and see it. Now if I wanted to see a film at the movies next Saturday, Too late that films not shown anymore! 100s of new films now being shown.

What happened? films like Scarface, Top Gun, Lion King, Pulp Fiction, Jurassic Park, The Mask, The Matrix, Terminator, Toy Story, Scream, Indiana Jones and many others. What you not agree that todays Movies do not compare? Where did it all go wrong and why?

Anytime someone asks this question it's obvious to me they don't know where to look. Great new movies are coming out every year.

Inglourious Basterds, The King's Speech, Paranormal Activity, Inception, I mean c'mon, these are movies that broke records, won academy awards, and are proof that movies today are as good as movies from any other decade.

~ I couldn't disagree with you more. Every decade makes its share or excellent films. 2012, for example, was one of the best years in film. The film industry is different these days. Most of the films you see listed at the theater are for teens, who are the group that go to see movies the most- makes sense. All of these superhero films and horror films are targeted at teens. A lot of excellent films get either a limited run or go straight to dvd/red box etc. You really have to look for good films nowadays, because in most cases, you won't see them in the theater.

Television these days is far superior to any other era. I don't hear anyone, but you, complaining about today's TV shows. The variety or genres and topics has never been more varied and exciting. Great acting and production is the norm with today's television. The cable channels have really come up with excellent viewing. And the sales of TV series on dvd/blu ray is strong

There are two problems in the modern world, number one is money. Studios want to make as much money as possible so they aren't willing to take a risk on original stories so they churn out the movies with story lines that made money in the past. The second problem is that they use to have to do special effects for real, real explosions, real car crashes, real things being destroyed, so they didn't do a lot of it and focused more on the story. Now they can do it cheaply in digital so they load the movies up with things like explosions and monsters and such. They think that's what the audience wants so they go overboard, plus it's cheaper than paying a scriptwriter.

Of course now they are losing money on their big spectacular crap fests so they are going to have to go back to the basics.

Hollywood writers can't write. The few that can don't get a look in.
