I'm not talking about "OMG HAROLD AND KUMARZ GOEZ TO WHITE CASTLES! YAYAY81(!*#$!$)*" I'm talking thee ACTUAL best movie (in the English language) ever made. According to the cinematography, direction, acting, down to the extras. Out of the movies considered the best, which do you think is the best? Whether it be Citizen Kane or Shawshank Redemption.

Casablanca--the acting is superb, the little "bits" are funny and "shocking", the cut-a-ways to paris are wonderful and a better line than "round up the usual suspects" is only surpassed by "this could be the start of a beautiful friendship"

second would be "gone with the wind"

third would be the first "star wars"

both because of the visual impact and the characters and their development (in the final scene a 2 bit renegade's second in command orders empty ump troops to attention by growelling loudly and yet we all sat up straighter in our seats)

thats character development.

If I was forced to pick one...I can say with 100% certainty that City Of God fits all of those above mentioned categories, minus the English language. The cinematography, acting, plot and location are insanely beautiful...with a large dose of genius. It's a roller coaster of a film. Check it out.

Is it just me or is everyone giving you box office hits like Spider Man, or some crap? Those movies are lifeless.

It always has been Citizen Kane according to the critics. That's the consensus. It just won some "all time best movie ever" type of award recently.

"Eternal Sunshine on the Spotless Mind" or "Punch Drunk Love" Both early 2000's movies with famous actors not in there normal style roles. Hard to swallow but if you like acting and charactors you'll want to feel emotion for these are wonderfull movies.
